Thread: What do the proposed fixes have to do with what we asked for?
You don't seem to understand human dynamics, do you? People, especially in a game, DOES NOT want a restraining order placed on them. You can do certain things (i.e. kick them out of group) to make them not act stupid but there is a limit to it.
If some guy was unfortunate enough to get aggroed while the leader used this "no engaging" command, that poor guy will be there taking hits without the ability to hit back. What if the leader is a total jackass and just ran his way without looking back? (I have seen this happen before, and it also happened to me while I'm a group member) Such event will reflect badly on us squad leaders.
Most of the new stuff are half-assed attempt at fixing the profession, and FYI, a group with a Squad Leader as its leader is suppsoed to be_deadly_and_strike_fast_and_hard. None of these new abilities reflected that.
Devs are just that, devs. They program, they don't play the game. WE the players on the other hand, are the ones that actually tests the game.
I'd love to see Jeff Petersen (JeffP) as the head developer of SWG, he's one guy who listens to the players (back in the Subspace days).

The passive abilities have always been the best part of SL, and frankly you guys all missed the bus on what to ask for. We want mostly passive abilities, so we can spend the rest of our time actually managing the group/playing our role, rather than using 5 million different commands.
I agree most of the new abilities are stupid, but why were you asking for more intrusive abilities in the first place?
Also, I'm sick and tired of reading threads like "19 people in a group, why would you want a SL for the last member." Give me a break...if all your character has is SL then, no, I wouldn't want him in my group. If he has medic or some weapon ability or some other useful skills that's a different story.
SL is not supposed to be some uber profession that everyone takes. It's a support class. We should get passive bonuses and a few abilities that help the group. We actually weren't that bad off in the first place (assuming our bonuses actually do anything, which some claim they don't, and I can't personally test atm), all we needed was a few more passive abilities. Maybe "Forced March", and some sort ofRegen buffs to ALL stats (not just mind) that works out of combat, but not requiring a camp.
You dont even understand the SL to begin with, it has nothing to be with being the uber class.
All the proposed changes do is turn people into player pets. Which is far from what we want, it might be beneficial for the group sometimes, but do you really want to be dictated by another player?
Put yourself in a group member's position then, lose your freedom to do anything in the group and tell me how fun that is.
A really disciplined group will not require the SL to even use half of his abilities, and that is what most the SL here are having issue with.
How useful is an ability to you because its effects are negative in the group? Would you even use it at all?
More is not better.
Im very disapointed I can get a squad to do most of the crap ideas they are giving us just by communication.
Problem I see here is squadleader will be too busy micromanaging groups to attack and GET SL xp lol....
They have obviously brainstormed ideas on a whiteboard to redress the class, selected a slew on novelty value and announced them as replacements, with little or no regard to functionality ingame. A good squadleader can get people to do these things without command functions for them, why would someone invest 63 + (the extra stuff needed to get to tree)skill points so that you can do something which you can do effectivly with a pre hunt pep talk and speaking ingame during the hunt?
Most of the stuff given sa the fix should be taken for granted - now add some extra interesting stuff on top of that and then your talking, hopping from one useless set of abilities to another - woopie doo...
So.....what do YOU think my position on the new rubbish is?...lol
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't it say that the hold fire turns off if you're agroed? So that it won't get to the point that it'll be the cause of troops going down and make people not want to be in groups with SL's?

I've heard it expressed multiple multiple times on this board that squad leaders should not be able to force other players to do anything.
