Squad Leader Archive
Thread: Quick Poll--Respond ASAP
I could keep it... but here are a few ideas:
Executive Officer, or better yet. Have just (X-O) under your title. ^_^
Warrant Officer - if we ever get the ability to set up weapons like the E-Web this might be good.
Again I am not a military oriented person so this is the extent of my knowledge.
Tactician sounds like someone who sits in a camp away from the fighting.
Just a quick post from aveteran. Most squadleaders are non-coms so the officer type titles seem a little over the edge.
Hopefully the rest of the military types will back me up on this, but, in the armed forces of the U.S. you get more respect as a grizzled non-com than you ever would as a "officer". Here are a few titles that I think would work and give the profession some character:
1. Master Squad Leader = Sergeant Major
2. mobility tree = Drill Sergeant
3.strategy tree = Gunnery Sergeant
4. leadership tree = First Sergeant
5. tatics tree = Plattoon Sergeant
I know this doesn't work well for those non - military types but you find that most combative squads have a rank and title structure similar to this. Also I thinnk that this is the direction the devs were going ... otherwise the profession would have been called Team leader. (very little military connotation there)
just my 2 cents seeing as how DiLune made mention to the fact that the devs are looking at titles right now.
B) Comander
a) but i really dont care if you change it or not...
lets make it the titel Master and Commander
lol
or realy cool like field commander
maby Surface General or something

Officers normally don't lead anything smaller than a platoon, so Thumb is on target here.
Squad leaders are staff sergeant billets.

We play in a world of evil, racist, sexist empires. Scum with death warrents on twelve systems will just as soon kill you as look at you, Even the beloved rebels have their ranks filled with mercinaries, pirates, and slavers. And they worry about the "commisar" title? ![]()
Using 'Sergeant' is a dangerous move, given that we have some sergeant-ish faction ranks.
How much confusion is it going to cause when you have someone who is a Rebel colonel whose prof. title is Sergeant Major?
Any titles we have should steer clear of ranks and instead be job titles: e.g. Tactical Officer, etc.
While it is cool to have Field Commander as your title, it does blur the line.
While you are correct in that there are faction ranks of the same title, there currently is not any way that this is visually represented for players to while playing. So while it might be confusing for those individuals that know your faction rank it would also pique the attention of other players and provide some entertainment value into our profession. I do not know if you were in the military or not but as I had statedearlier, If you were a non-com you got more respect than any officer ever did. Having the officer title after something really doesn't do anything for me personally for just that reason.
Don't call me Sir, I work for a living. ![]()
