Thread: How to be a good profession correspondant
Setswipe,
I suppose that if SOE is intending it to run it that way, a correspondent putting in personal opinions is what they expect. From the three bullet points they had in the announcement I thought they were implying that they wanted an evenhanded approach...so that's what I was expecting (not to mention that's what I am accustomed to from AO). However, it also says "In the interest of well-rounded feedback, once a month we may select a new correspondent." Which implies that they think one correspondent cannot give well-rounded feedback. Now, this thread is basically all about trying to get a correspondent to give well-rounded feedback. So...it would appear that you are right that I'm off in left field on this one.
So, I apologize to all for wasting your time with my suggestions on how our correspondent can represent us.
It looks like what SOE wants (and I overlooked as being something the SL community would want) is someone to push their own opinions...in which case I'd say Vem is doing a great job all around...
I guess if someone feels strongly enough about something, they need to work to become the correspondent so they can push their ideas. I'd rather see us try to give a unified front to the DEVs, but if SOE wants to do it otherwise, no use fighting it. ![]()

The good news is the designers are investigating all the top issues of the community. We are working on fixes and tweaks for many of them. Some of the top 5 issues are already resolved on Test Center.
Where we are currently failing is in getting feedback to the Correspondents. I could make a list of reasons why our communication lines are not up to speed yet this week, but I'm certain you are not interested in hearing excuses. We regonize that this feedback loop must get better and are in the process of interviewing/hiring an assistant community manager in Austin whose main job will be direct contact between the dev team and the community on these types of issues (a hybrid between what Raph and I did in Beta). In the meantime, I am trying to get the more answers to you, but with 32 professions, it isn't going swiftly yet. Things are getting looked at and fixed, we just need to get more info back to you.
I apologize for the current state. It will get better.

I just want to add a little to this, being the one who said Ididn't feel confident in our Correspondents abilities in another thread. My views are based on reading through all of the class boards, and seeing what the other correspondants are doing. By my judgement (notice I say by MY judgement) the BEST correspondent of these boards is the Commando correspondent, he continually provides information from the Dev to the community, and has always put together a clear and concise list of what the MOST COMMON requests are by the community. A lot of work is being done on Commandos because of his dedication and commitment, the commando community (which I am a part of) is kept well informed by their correspondent.Mostly from my opinion because of clear and concise lists of issues and sticking to specific problems until they are addressed.
If you want to see an excellent job in corresponding check out the Commando board, maybe our current correspondent can head over there and see what needs to be done to get a decent response from SOE, as well as how to manage the threads appropriately as to not generate a cluster **** like this board seems to be to me.

Um ... what?
Did we become Socialists over night and I missed it?
Of course everyone is entitled to an opinion. It is the most basic element of a free society and intelligent discourse.
Geez Noch, chill. Who wants to be a correspondent when they get abuse like this from you?
>Nobody is entitled to anything.
LOL, what a crock.
Kayyin,
I'd bet the reason we aren't getting as much attention as other profs has nothing to do with our correspondent. Don't put that on him.
Entitlement,
I believe we have the right to opinions because of the country we live in. I like that and I don't want to see it change...but there is nobody handing tickets out to every human born saying "Here's your ticket that entitles you to an opinion." If you read that whole paragraph I hope it is clear that I firmly support everyone's freedom to have an opinion. I think it is important for people to remember that our freedoms are ones that have been fought for...they didn't appear out of thin air. Anyway...guess that's my family background (immigrants from less than free societies) coming through.

I've done everything in my power. If there is something more you want me to do that is physically possible and not harrassment to SOE, please feel free to let me know.
This is quite a ridiculous thread. I am 100% behind our correspondant - let's remember that he's a guy who's just volunteering to help out with the profession - He isn't a full time paid member of SOE, he's just a guy.
I don't think we can ask these ridiculous things of him, I only ask that he read this forum and pick out the intelligent suggestions from all the bollox.
Keep it up, Capt. Vemmox, your a champ!

I find it hard to swallow that a correspondant shouldn't be free to post his opinions. The Correspondant is also a Squad Leader and hence part of the community. Truly, the Correspondant'spresentation of our community's wishes and opinionsin official correspondance to SOEshould be free of bias, honest, and as literal an interpretation of what we have offered as a community as possible. But to say that he should not present his own opinions and feelings concerning class issues borders on ignorance.
I realize most of this argument has been resolved but I felt like pointing out the general absurdity of the idea, for future reference.
