Thread: To be or not to be squad leader...

Well.

I spent the meager 7500 Combat XP, dropped Novice Medic, and picked up Squad Leader. I found much you like you guys have already stated, that not much came with Novice. I don't know if we got the +10 the Terrain Negotiation, because as a Ranger, I am always faster than everyone anyway. Someone had a Bantha, and that beast seemed slow as heck anyway/

I am trying to find something that compliments my current skill path, and something that benefits my PA. We hunted the Drall Caves in the Agrilat swamps, as well the lame Selonian Dungeon outside Kor Vella. In a group which consisted of 6 PCs and 3 Creature Pets, I managed to get 22k Squad Leader experience in thehour I was leading this group. All members of the group are in Elite/Hybrid professions.

Now, this seems to me a slow crawl to get 175k per skill in the first level of skills.

I also must admit I don't know that I support the proposed changes to the profession. I don't want a group of mindless pets. I hope to offer some constructive criticism to these boards, as SL seems like a big benefit to a lot of situations. The sysgroup command is really no different than simply using groupchat to keep track of group members who fell behind, and without knowing if we receieved any benefit to terrain negotiation, what's the benefit of going Novice Squad Leader.

Just one stupid question. Does SLXP gain faster if we were hunting lairs? I noticed when we killed a Gronda lair I got most of my XP from that. I tapped the lair while group killed beasts. This method always works for us anyway, but are lairs the key to Squad Leader XP?

Another voice saying "Don't JUMP!" here. It's a waste of time.

If you really want to help your group be a CH or a medic and keep a bit of entertainer so you can heal mind wounds in camp (and BF in town). I picked up a bit of CH and my groups are a lot stronger due to my one little pet than they ever were due to my 1,1,3,2 SL skills.

XP from lairs looks good to you because you did all the damage to the lair and you are in a big group. Your xp is directly related to your damage output...so any target or collection of targets you can deal the same amount of damage to wil give you the same xp. If lairs work for you and your group, go for it. I've had better luck with other things though...not that SL xp really helps you except to getting you some different titles to float over your head eventually.

So what you guys are saying, is even the existing abilities gained from Squad Leader (boost morale, formup, rally, steady aim and volley fire) are broken? Bad enough I have yet to get /assist to work, or my Ranger skill /rescue...

I have heard and read conflicting stories from various people. I know you guys are pissed, and you have every reason to be, as many other forgotten professions in this game.

I was a almosta Chef for a bit, so I seriously understand what you guys as Squad Leaders have dealt with. I am also a Ranger and a Pistoleer, and I cannot seem to find a profession thats not busted, or useless, except Bounty Hunter of course, but even they have gripes. I alsoam aNovice Creature Handler, but it doesn't appeal to me. I thought Squad Leader would help, since I am almost always in a group, whether it be faction pets, normal pets, or Player Characters. Meh.. If it's all the same to you good people, I'll make my own determination as to how useless this profession is.

I hope to contribute to the many well put together threads in here once I learn a bit more about this badly needed profession. I think it could be a great one if it's done right.

Either way, I am grateful for the feedback

Honestly, if you want to gain mechanical advantages or have fun abilities to use for the groups advantage don't bother. You contribute more with fanshot than all of your SL abilities. Faster kills means more credits/faster xp.

If you really don't care where 27 skill points are going...then take up to Mobility III. It helps free up skill points for players in your group (if you have a regular group you lead) who were taking explore III. I have two in my group who have given it up so they could put their points to better use.

That's good advice DiLune. Thanks a lot.I pray for a day when my group members can keep up with me. Tired of people falling behind only to have some aggros spawn on top of them. I don't know know what I intend to keep and give up, but climbing the Mobility line sounds like a good option to wasting much needed skill points on things that don't work. I hate already being out of skill points!

I really hope they get every profession working as intended though. Oh what fun we can have!
