Thread: Idea, DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT SKILLS WE DONT HAVE

Pardon me for saying so, but wanting to be satisfied with something I have to pay for and work at is hardly whining. It is ingratiating and insulting, and I resent it.

Further, to say that squad leaders expressingtheir opinions is whining or complaining when we are asked for them is pedantic and counterproductive. We should all resent this implication.

"Stop complaining about skills we dont have yet... Why? Because we WONT get them if you dont shuttup!"

That's the point.

You only think knockdown is bugged because you got killed by someone who used it, NEWS FLASH Deffense MODS dont work... So until those start workingwe dont know wether it should be nerfed or not.

Sigh. Okay swift, I guess you are the last to know this. With KD I can solo a red. Holo and the rest of the devs don't want me to. hence, exploit. don't accuse me of not understanding the game. I'm a master pistoleer/master SL. I have range AE KD. I know how badass I am. When I am soloing four canyon corsairs and not getting hit...you think that's how it should be?

What I am saying is KD would be balanced out with a timer per person and Proper deffense mods, right now it doesn't matter that much.... We dont lose anything on death except our pride, can't wait till Insurance costs us something...

Exactly. The Devs did not realize how exploitable KD would be so they have to put a timer on it. Same with the Ch exploit. They didn't realize what they were doing so they have to change it.

I don't believe they are infallible. I don't believe they have given much thought to SL aside from "hey this sounds cool, and that sounds cool." I don't want the profession changed because they were tweaking 32 profs at the same time and didn't have time to really think about ours. We want to make them think about ours.

And honestly, what is broken about SL, other than kicking a member? (oh no, we have one thing wrong with our profession, the DEVs hate us!)

And this my friends, is someone who either hasn't played an SL or hasn't been past novice.

So please, my friend, impart some of your master squad leader knowledge on us, and then maby I will learn somthing instead of just reading the post of yet another dumb moron who doen't know a rifle from a stick.

You're right, I'm not the most advanced squad leader. I don't have any lvl 2 skills yet. So, hmm, maby that is why I asked:

"what is broken about SL, other than kicking a member?"

Can we please get a FAQ up on these?

What works: Terrain Negotiation +60, Sysmessage, Burst Run efficiency +60

What doesn't work: Melee and Range defense. Steadyaim. Volleyfire.

What works but truly sucks: Boostmorale, rally, retreat.

The most useful skill is Terrain Negotiation. Sadly. Sysmessage is useful but can be duplicated with normal chat functions. Everyone saves burst run for an emergency, yet no one runs from combat so it is never used.

Defense mods have been turned off since beta. Steadyaim and volleyfire have no discernable effect.

Boostmorale moves wounds around, not damage. Its a fourth tier skill. By the time you have fourth tier skills you have docs in your party. The docs can heal over 100 wounds in one shot. It is less efficient to share wounds with unwounded party members than it is to let all the wounds be healed by one stim on one person. Rally gives a +10 to hit for a short time but denys group members the ability to harvest, sit, craft or anything else you can't do while in a combat posture. It also takes roughly 150 mind to activate and fails 50% of the time. Retreat takes about 600-650 Mind and Action each to activate. While it is 100% it also only lasts a little less than 6 seconds and again no one runs from combat in this game anyway.

We have no master level skills. Your docs can rez you, your CM can heal the entire party with one stim, your CH can pull out a Rancor or three meat shields. Your pistoleer has a range AE KD. Hell, even a master dancer can buff your mind (up to +500) if you watch them for about 20 minutes and then stop watching. Only mind buff in the game. What do we get? Whats listed above. Nothing but broken skills and useless skills. At the end of the class you are left with +60 to terrain negotiation and a chat function that no one else gets. Mastering a class yields this? Nothing in the newly proposed skills, again, is master level or high level as far as an advanced hybrids class abilities go. The new ranger will be able to mask you from PCs! What can we do? Make you run faster, heal mind faster in a camp, force you to follow me, force you not to fire, force you to change to my target, force you to fire on joe blows target, force you to travel in a wedge with no discernable effect after I forced you to follow me...as a matter of fact I don't even need you at your keyboard to run the group anymore. Of the newly proposed abilities I do enjoy the stances concept, the fire-team concept and the terrain movement concept. I do not think that I will sit idly by andaccept the rest of the pap justto get what I would consider to be Tier I and II skills.

I don't have to experience a gunshot wound firsthand to know it probably stings a bit. Nor do I have to drink bleach to know that it's probably very unwise.

What I'm getting at is that Sony doesn't have to implement features unwanted by an overwhelming majority of players (within and outside the profession) to know it's bad for the game.

The forums exist for us to voice an opinion.

And we have: this direction is the worst thing that could happen for the profession, and not good for the community as a whole.

I would like to 2nd (or is it 3rd, I think Nochmal suggested this a while ago) that we keep a FAQ thread. I keep hearing the same questions over and over. It gets old writing the same response again and again.

I would also like to put this question on the board.

Q: Why provide feedback on skills we don't have?

A: BecauseSOEcreated a correspondance program to providethem with feedback from the SL community on class issues. New abilities falls in that categorey, sothats what we are doing. If you like the changes, just post you like the changes. If not, say so. It's that simple.
