I'm a BH and as you all know we hunt jedi. Part of the hunt is getting buffed up beforehand and being prepared to engage in combat. In my goal to be prepared as possible soI created another account with an alt Doctor to buff my character before entering a mission. As I have tons of extra skill points left over, I was wondering how this profession functions as buffers. As I see it, you have two abilities that look highly useful to me. These are Rally and Volleyfire. It appears however that volleyfire must be "cast" or set-off or whatever on the target so that wouldn't really help since only the BH with the mission can target the jedi. Still, rally looks incredible. I'm wondering how long does this buff last? Or does it operate within a certain radius? Can it be turned on froma planet away or must your group members be within visual distance of you when you use Rally? If it works like I hope, I could give my BH character +50 group terrtain negotiation, +50 Burst Run Efficiency, +25 Group Melee Defense, +25 Group Ranged Defense with 4034 SLsimply by being in the same group with him. And then... with rally give him another 80 accuracy and 40 defense in ranged and melee. Please tell me if and how this would work.

Rally only last for 15seconds, and can only be used every 30 seconds.

I believe the passive bonuses (Terrain Negotiation, etc) function anywhere, crossplanet or not. Rally I believe does have a range of somewhere around 128m. But /rally cannot be used while moving, and in my experience can't be used while /follow'ing either (even when standing still).

regardless of the range, once you engage in combat, only the innate group mods help you. The SL can rally, volley etc all they want, and you will not see a single bonus off of them. I suppose you could rally then engage....you would have it for the first 15 seconds of the battle at least. Reality is....dragging a SL bot around to give you an extra +10 to your TN (anything over +50 is for crawling) and +30 melee/ranged defense isnt worth the hassle in my opinion.

Indeed.

I once again feel obliged to thank people like the person asking. Due to such people, several nervs were installed on our profession, to make sure that the very few actually working bonuses can not be abused in the above mentioned way.

you can always make your main a SL/BH such as i have. the mods themselves are very balanced and you still have enough SPs for two full trees of another ranged prof.

my temp is MSL / MBH / Rifles 2020 / Marksman 4404

note1: i recognized a need to get dizzy recovery and wanted better mods when using pistols, otherwise i would have stuck with Rifle 4040

ranged def: 185

melee def: 155

ranged acc w/ rifle: 200

ranged acc w/ pistol: 165

ranged spd w/ rifle: 85

ranged spd w/ pistol: 75

note2: those mods are before any bonus from SL or BH specials, grouping,or wpn defences. for instance, adding Duelist Stance and a 'solo' group with an alt, and defences will raise to 465/435,even more when considering wpn defences. these numbers can be increased further depending on the final use of the left over skill points

Lol, I don't see how it would be an "abuse" to do what I'm asking. It's my character and I'm welcome to use the skill points however I wish. It's okay to be defensive of your profession though, everyone takes pride in what they choose to be, however, if I have the skill points to waste, I might as well do this, right? Unless you could tell me a better way they could be used.

KJFett3, your post clarified pretty much what I was already thinking. I just had to hear it from another person. My followup question would be, the innate mods... how far away do those work from? If my SL is on Naboo and my BH is on Talus, is he still going to get that extra terrain negotiation, defense, and burst run efficiency? Also, the terrain negotation would be used precisely for the bonus to crawl. Is it possible that crawl speed could ever match normal walking speed?

lol, that would be one fast crawler. No. It is not nearly that fast. I still think you are going to be disappointed in trying what you are trying. There is a reason that no one uses SL bots anymore.

It's an abuse in the way that you plan to have two characters to do one characters job. I am sorry for reacting badly on this, but there once were numerous SL-bots which did nothing else but stand somewhere, give the team the bonuses and run some macros to give the teammember bonuses, while not being played.

Due to those bots, the SL got several nerfs, some of them affected the "regular" SL as bad as the bots. Due to those nerfs in place, you probably won't make such a bot any more, but that's not because you wouldn't do so, but only because by now we got hit hard so many times that it's not worth it for you any more. (And i know very well,if somebodystill find such an abuse, it will be used till the SL gets another painful hit with the nerfbat. This is no news to me, saw that on other games, too... abusers going around like a swam of hungry locusts, leaving behind a trail of broken and nerved professions... )

Well I went ahead and made my Doctor/SL character, partly for my main char but also to have a fullout support class incase my guild might need it. I've read a ton of posts here and I'm almost appalledat the neglect shown tothis community versus how much attention other professions get. I'll do what I can on my server to raise awareness about this profession and sign petitions, whatever, because this profession was one of the bestest concepts for a class in the game that I can see but it seems to have gotten somewhat forgotten.

If you actually play the SL/Doc, then i wish you the best success and a lot of fun. It's a great member to have in team, while not kicking a lot by itself, the actual combat ability and survivability of the team increases manyfold.

Then i am sorry for my comments, i just don't want the SL to be used as powerup-dummy again.
