Thread: The ATST nerf and a solution

I jsut read the ridiculous post by TH regarding ATSTs, CHs being able to call 3 rancors and CHs now also are associated with how many faction pets they can call.


What does a CH know about commanding a group of soldiers?


Lets the CH's command their creatures, lets squad leaders command our faction pets. This is another way fixing squad leaders could seriously help rebalance the game and solve other major issues liek that sticky thread i nthe forum.

It has already been suggested.


According to previous postings from Thunderheart, this is just the first step in the whole scheme of things. They're bringing everyone down to just 1 pet, and then will allow additional pets to professions as appropriate. Additional faction pets for Squad Leaders makes sense, but so does additional faction pets for increased faction rank. Either way, I think the devs already have their plans for this in mind.

I think that this is a great idea. Especially if faction pets are only going to be usable in PvP, it makes sense for Squad Leaders to be able to command loads of them. Adding in some other PvP and PvE specific support skills would help to make the Squad Leader attractive as a profession, too.


Maybe Squad Leaders should be able to command faction pets form a greater than normal radius (Commlinks?), and set up some slightly more sophisticated tactics with them. Currently only players are smart enough to help set up ambushes, or to automatically start attacking the most appropriate enemy (i.e. the Commandos). Perhaps some of the "player handler" ideas from that infamous proposed Squad Leader tree could be implemented after all, but usable only on Faction Pets. That way a Squad Leader could have, say, an AT-ST (these things should always be limited to 1 per player), with a couple of Stormtroopers guarding it (attacking the Commandos who shoot at it), and a Medic (or a mechanic?) healing the AT-ST during the fight. A couple of other Stormtroopers could be hiding in cover to flank their opponents after the fight starts.

Another idea - maybe for PvE Squad Leaders can recruit Mercenaries: NPC humanoids who fight for them. These would probably be lower in level than CH pets (max. level 15 or so) but a MSL could command up to 5 or 6 at a time (not to exceed 70 levels), and they could use ranged weapons. Just a thought.

The way I see it... Everyone will only be able to have one AT-ST no matter what. But if they do it right the amount of faction pets is based off of rank....


We will just have to wait and see what they say next.

Imperials do not nee dmore than 1 ATST. I am VERY against ATST's being pets at all.


Currently Imps with 3 ATST's out camp anything they want solo. They do things NO ONE can do, just because they grinded out FP in a group (as most smart imps do) or they have enough cash to BUY the FP from a smuggler to get a ATST. Many imps on my server can EASILY afford 3 ATST's without batting an eye.


Krayt Dragons on test center are now reported to have THREE-HUNDRED THOUSAND HAM because of allt he ATST camping of Krayts. It is thanks to ATST's that Krayts were pumped up so much the casual gamer will never be able to touch them.


Currently I have learned that regula rpets "rancors, maulers, etc" can no longer attack Turrets on faction bases. and yet FACTION PETS can.


so lets see... Imps get to use ATST's a 20k HAM machine against turrets. And rebels get to use, a Urban Guerilla. Yes, very balanced.


i can go on listing various other examples, reasons, and whatnot but i think ive given enough to show how i feel about peopel being able to wield large amounts of pets, especially ATST's. I didnt agree with it when CH's could have 3 Rancors. I certainly dont agree with Imps being able to solo anything they want.


leave it at 1 faction pet per player. Wont matter if a Master Squad Leader can call 6 urban guerillas anyway...still useless even compared to ONE ATST.

Squad Leader is not a Creature Handler type, Pets are out of the question... We need to make PLAYERS useful, not Pets. Period... I am sick of hearing this, trying to turn us into a goddamn Pet Junkies...

AT-ST an't bieng nerfed it just dropping the armor a bit but its increasing its ham to 50k.

My ideal AT-ST change is to make it a vehicle. But really Squad Leaders should not be limited or exclusive to the GCW. Faction pet amounts need to be based off of something else.

I saw the term "Balanced" slip in here earlier - but that argument is for another thread.

As for original constructive and creative ideas - I'm dry. Everyoene else tends to get the ones I come up with before I get to them, but atleast they get here. Personaly I don't think SL's only true power should be in the GCW. And I think we should try to avoid GCW only abilities. I'm in no way opposed to the GCW - I'm in it almsot every second of the day - but exclusitivity to it is not the way to go.

Perhaps giving MSLs the ability to alow all group members to have 1 additional pet? SOmething along these lines - that will alow us to really shine in the War but still keep our heads up on the hunting grounds. I'de also like to see a lot of the abilities mentioned in the Offical Discussion Forums be looked at. But with the new pet changes - this might really make us have a purpose until they decided to wake up and smell the grease.

I wish people would stop spreading missinformation, cause I always feel like it's a civic duty to spread the truth in response. Nowhere did anyone state that CH's would use 3 rancors. Nobody* can now (*without exploits). CH's will not be able to call 3 rancors after the big patch. CH's will be able to call 3 pets total, adding up to 70 cl. Rancors are CL50. you do the math.
