Thread: Captain: Where's our State of the Profession?

Cap'n,

You're doing a great job as our Correspondent, especially given the amount of attention we've received (read: xp fiasco + nothing), however I'm noticing that we don't have a State of the Profession post like those I'm seeing pop up in other profession forums. I know that you submitted a report a LONG time ago, but that report and the subsequent new ideas that I and others have submitted have basically been buried by SLXP debate and our unavoidable pouting about having a broken class.

Honestly, I'm pretty proud of some of the ideas that I've come up with and several have been very well received within our .46% community. Since I think we are on the verge of actually having Thunderheart take a look at us, I hope that we have plenty to present. Maybe it's just a matter of /bumping some old threads back near the top to make sure they get the appropriate visibility, but I think you might be well advised to create a new report based on the "State of the <Profession>" format if you aren't tabulating that already. If so, good luck and thanks for your diligent work to save our broken yet beloved profession.

One thing that I very much hope is noticed about the Squad Leader profession is where the priority should be. I might not hold the unanimous opinion, but I really believe that fixing the original skills and xp tree should actually take the backseat to complete overhaul of our profession. We've been FAR underpowered from the beginning even when our skills work, and in relation to the other elite/hybrid/combat/support professions, all the others have seen improvements (and some "balancing" aka nerf) but overall have gotten cooler leaving us farther and farther behind. Personally, every time I see an improvement to other hybrid professions that give them increased support and combat capabilities while Squad Leaders are left broken, it serves as another "nerf" to our nearly useless profession.

Squad Leader DESERVES to be thebest profession in the game. We already have an inherent limiter: All our abilities are designed to aid other professions and all our abilities are completely useless unless we are the leader of a group. This limitation shouldbe balanced by VERY powerful skills. Simply fixing the current tree will not place SL's where we need to be.

Granted we're now seeing the small influx of "holocronies" into our profession, and some may decide they like it and stick around...but the true leaders will ALWAYS be leaders, regardless of what profession we are. If we don't get the right adjustments, the best advice to aspiring young leaders will eventually be: Learn a "REAL" leadership profession: Combat Medic, Ranger, Doctor,Bounty Hunter, Commando, Creature Handler....or Jedi. Currently, each of those professions does more to support a group. But then again, evenDroid Engineer/Chef/Carbineer has skills that aremore helpful toa group than what we currently have.

I'll never give up leading squads, but I may do that job better by dropping the "Squad Leader" profession...and that's very very sad.

Good Luck, Captain Vemnox. You've got your work cut out for you, but the whole game can be improved by your efforts!

Oh Capitan, my capitan, you are doing a great job given the circumstances.

On that note, here are some things that I think should be presented to TH:

1) First and foremost, the "bunker" idea. Talk to him about it. Ask him some questions about what would have to happen to it for it to be feasable. (He might say, "Well, there would have to be a preaty heafty timer on it."You can then haggle him about them. But I'mpreaching to the choir...:robottongue Remember, it is not a replacement for ranger camps. It provides no healing or crafting centers or anything else, just passive bonuses like defence and accuracy.

2) Rally. Either lower the HAM cost or (preferably) add another skill further up the tree. Something like /advancedrally that didn't fail so often.

3) Either a lower HAM cost or a small bonus to regen rates for squad members. Something small like this would go a long ways towards making our profession usefull.

4) XP. This is a given, thoughI include it last because, if you don't get other stuff done, it's pointless. You've heard all about "same rate of growth as before, but different system", so I'm not going to elaborate.

That's all for now, though I may remember some other issue in a bit.

Good luck, Capitan.

Not only that, but aside from Bounty Hunter, Squad Leader has the most prerequisite skills in the game (the slow boring ones based on Wildenrness survival and combat XP that take forever). And now that the XP is fixed, its still hard to become Master Squad leader, so yeah all this work should pay off. Even grinding a crafter to master isnt so much work.

We Need no state of the profession report as they have nothing to state about our profession.

We have received 3 patches since the game started.

He has asked for no state of profession from me, nor will I give him one. When I get a reply to my first two reports, I'll write one, but I'm not about to spend another day compiling a bunch of B.S. just for the community here to go "hurrah!" about and the Dev's to go "Huuhhhhhhhhhh?" about.
