Currently the highest rank aplayer can obtain in a factionis the rank of Colonel.

What do you think of giving Squad Leaders the ability to go higher in faction rank than a normal player?

I know it only gives you a higher FP cap, but at least it will make us somewhat different from everyone else in the titles we get for our rank. I would personally love the idea of getting the rank of General which other non Squad Leaders can't get. Then again no one can see our ranks but us and the recruiters, so it would have to be a personal goal.

Maybe it would be used or neededif they ever put inbigger basesthat actually don't get destroyed easily or have bugs crawling through the walls, and cost a ton more faction points to get that the current Colonel rank can't get... Just a thought..

I like this idea a lot...

could also be a way to solve the Faction Pet issue... Higher Rank = More Faction Pets, is something ive seen on the boards many times.

Being a new SL myself, I love this idea.

Yes, I intend to keep SL, it's not a holoprofession. Having great fun so far.

It's a great idea, but you have to consider something:

If you drop Squad Leader, do you lose your higher rank and go back down to Colonel? If this didn't occur, you'd see everyone mastering Squad Leader just for that sole purpose and then dropping it right away. Then it wouldn't be worth it.

It should be tied into the skill boxes, For each of the 4 tiers have it be Rank +1 and then Master Squad Leader also be Rank +1. This would be an automatic rank promotion due to your leadership abilities. So if you drop the skills boxes you lose the rank.

So it would alow you to get (for Rebels)

Firstrow completed - Brigadier General
Second row completed - Major General
Third row completed - Lieutenant General
Fourth row completed - General
Master Box completed - High General

For Imperials

Firstrow completed - High Colonel
Second row completed - Brigadier General

Third row completed - Major General
Fourth row completed - Lieutenant General

Master Box completed - General

High General (for Imperial) and Surface Marshal - Not sure how to get these, maybe make getting MSL +1(2) rank increase with the (2) the ability to increase your rank by two more levels by completinga special quest, or really hard missions, or owning a large faction base. These would be limited to a small number of players, especially if you need to own a large faction base, maybe the strategic base when it comes out.. Make it available to General's and above only.

This would be great. Perhaps give a "general badge" for making that rank. but have the rank itself demote to colonel if you drop it. And obviously, LET US PUT OUR RANKS AS TAGS!

Weve only been asking for it since launch. Is it really that difficult a thing to code?

One of my personal opinions is that SL shouldn't be avaible till you reach a certain Rank and to ditch the Scout requirements. Heck it would be cool if that was just an option.

But here is the problem... it screws over Neutral SLs. If your Neutral, do you care about Rank?

If you're neutral the only rank you have is "Citizen" so your idea would only make Squad Leader available to faction aligned players.

Neutral players would just get no bonus for completing a skill tree.

This is currently a problem with merchant, so I doubt this would be implimented in this fashion.

Still an interesting idea. (and yes I want some way to display rank also...)

Hopefully they'll finally add the rank display while overt in the GCW revamp...

But a more important question is the increased rank something we all want, or does no one care? And it shouldn't just be for the higher ranks, it should raise your current rank by one once you complete a SL branch or master box. (so your rank would increase by 5 automatically as a MSL) And you would lose the ranks if you drop the boxes. Have it be Faction Rank = Base Rank + SL Rank

This would have to be implemented with both the SL revamp and the GCW revamp as they will be tied together.

Actually I came up with a suggestion for Neutral Factions, since they have a billion of them that mean squat. And you could allways give ranks to non-Imperial/Rebel SL's as there are militias and the like.

But my purpose was to point out to you that /your/ leaving out Neutral SLs. You need to come up with something to help them out as well, to encourage people to go SL.

I'm not leaving out Neutral SL's. They decided not to join a faction. This is a faction bonus, not a Squad Leader Bonus, it gives nothing to the group orthe skills of the Squad Leader. It just gives SL's the ability to go higher in rank in their faction. If someone doesn't want to be in a faction then they get no faction bonus. Until SOE decides to create a non Imperial/Rebel faction for the neutrals to join there's nothing we can do about it. Then again, even if they do createother factions, there may be those that still don't want to be faction aligned at all. In which case they still get no faction bonus. But that's their choice. Ranks are for faction aligned players, whether it's Rebel/Imperial or even possibly Criminal/Mercenary, they would still need to belong to a structured group in order to get rank. There's no way around it.

And why do the neutrals have to have the same abilites as the faction aligned players? SOE wants to encourage people to joina faction and join the GCW. It's what Star Wars is all about don't forget, the Rebels vs the Imperials. Sure there are other groups around during the time, but they're not military groups, well except maybe the hutts. Joining a faction should give you a bonus that staying neutral doesn't provide. Rank and faction pets/items are one of the bonuses. So is havingothers of yourfaction aroundto help you out. Neutral player ranksare more of a faction issue than a SL issue.

I didn't mean for this to be only a Rebel/Imperial rank bonus, it's just thatthey arecurrently the only factions that you can join to get a rank. If SOE creates other factions with ranks, then of course the bonus should apply to those factions as well.
