Squad Leader
We’re looking at adding a fairly large amount of functionality to Squad Leader, and because of that, it won’t make this update. The stuff we’re looking at:

-Follow Me:
Everyone in the group enqueues /follow on the leader

-In formation:

Using code similar to AI's followOffset: the group follows the leader in column, wedge or line formation

-Hold Fire & Fire At Will:
No one in the group is allowed to initate combat, although they can defend and can defend vs. anyone attacking a member of their group

-Group Attack:
Ayone not already in combat will enqueue an attack vs. the leader's look-at target

-Cease Fire:
Everyone in the group enqueues /peace.

-Assign Position:
The group leader can assign group members to "Front Line", "Support" or "Ranged" squads. Group Attack, Cease Fire, Group Cover, OffensiveStance, DefensiveStance, Hold Fire and Fire At Will can then be directed to these individual squads

-OffensiveStance:
Gives the group a temporary bonus to damage. The bigger the group the better the bonus, lowers defense.

-DefensiveStance:
Gives the group a temp bonus to defense. The bigger the group the better the bonus, lowers damage.
(i.e. Assign your tanks to "Front Line" and enqueue DefensiveStance on the front line group, then assign the ranged guys to "Ranged" and enqueue OffensiveStance on that group, etc.)

-Group Heal:
No, it doesn't heal the group: It changes the look-at target of anyone assigned to a support position to the leader's look-at target, and gives the system message "You have been ordered to heal ". Used by the leader to tell his healers who to heal. So you still have to push the button yourself (because he might not need a heal - he might need /firstAid or the like.

-Group Cover:
Enqueues a /assist for the group vs. the leader's look-at target. i.e. if I want everyone to shoot what Dan is shooting, then I look at Dan and enqeue Group Cover.

-Forced March:
Non-combat group burst-run sort of thing. Broken as soon as anyone in the group engages in combat.

-Smoke-em-if-you-got-em:
In a camp, out of combat, everyone in the group gets a mind regen bonus. The bigger the group the bigger the bonus.

Time for me to stop looking for a flashlight, and start working again. The light in the end of the tunnel just got brighter.

Not quite some of the things i was hoping for, however definitely some things I hadn't thought of and are certainly useful, especially the three squads element. Very interesting, guess I'll hold onto squad leader awhile.

Finally! A response! And best of all, it's a good one!(Or so it seems to me. )My only question is this: Are we going to loose our current abilities, or will these coincide with them? I like these new abilities and all, but frankly I'd rather not give up my group terrain navigation bonuses.

Actually, NO one can heal mind.....

damage that is.

Exept soon..well..one day...

Entertainers heal Mind Wounds and BF.

Hmm..I think I should keep my Fizz...and my artist suit....bright yellow camo pants, yellow boots, yellow reinforced jacket and a BIG golden neclace....you know...for the times in camp with my squad.........

Of course..I have this feeling they would start shooting at me if I put on my artist suit...

What do you think a BONUS TO REGEN MIND is? If u want to get technical yes...its not a HEAL.....but in my eyes this is even better...an overall bonus to regeneration!!

I can't wait!!!!!!

These proposed Squad Leader tweaks are fantastic. Sure it may not be everything everyone wanted, but you can't please everyone. The bottom line for me when looking at how they were going to change the profession was, "Were groups of players always going to want a Squad Leader?" I believe that with these changes the answer will be a resounding, "Yes." Defensive bonuses to tanks, attack bonuses to ranged players, movement bonuses to get to where you need to go in a hurry and maybe best of all, the mind healing enhancement. Riflemen have been clamoring for something to help them with thier mind use during special attacks, now they'll all want a Squad Leader in the group to make them more effective.

These changes make us a desireable class to play and for others to have leading thier group. That to me means all the difference.

Upon further thought.. i think that for large groups (like 12+ people) these commands are very useful.. we all know things can get VERY chaotic, and ONE person attacking a lair on accident or whatever can disrupt the entire group.. So i think in this respect these skills are very useful...

however, for small groups, of say 3-7 people, these skills generally arent very useful, except for the interestingly named "smoke em if you got em" (so the game openly condones smoking now? lol, not in MY unit!.. i wonder if we have to type /smokeemifyougotem for the command ) and perhaps the defensive/offensive stances.. so really, what we need to look at is how squad leaders are now viewed to the small hunting group.. how can we be more useful to them? Right now I think it is too early to say, because we need to see how our skill tree will look ultimately. But just be considering some ideas, for the next go-around...
