Hi everybody,

I figured the community might feel more secure with a SOTP (State of the Profession) post. And I know many are discouraged, feeling like we will never get any attention, but please don't give up hope. Every combat profession community has received the canned response, "Wait for the combat pass".It's the dreaded dev reply. But everyone needs to accept the amount of time to get all these changes to work, because it doesn't even revolve around those specific classes. For example one portion of the combat revamp is new weapons and certifications for them. This is a huge system to add,not only to the profession related to that weapon but to the weaponsmiths who will craft these new items.

Many of you might wonder where we, the Squad Leaders, fit into all of this... Well our definition is still up in the air, but we still have our roots as being the leaders of player groups. This is our base on which our profession will stand, where our future lies. We lead neither the entertainers nor the crafter professions, we lead the combat professions. We are not a combat profession ourselves, though our other skillpoints might be tied up in one. So why are we not getting fixed?

Since we are a combat support class we do have to wait for much of this combat pass to be finished as its integral to our system as a profession. I am hoping that the devs are taking us into consideration as a dumping point for good solutions to skills, mods, and strategies that they don't want all of one profession to have. That is only one portion of our playstyle, we also have passive bonuses and active skills that are general use and not allthat specific to one type of combat. /Formup is one of our greatest skills if not for its simplicity, but because it works to our advantage. An idea that I read with a similar effect was a targeted Force of Will type skill (I will edit this space to put in the link), which would be a great asset. There are countless other good ideas like this,

What is our state of the profession then? Well,we are in the "Brainstorm State". All we can do is generate ideas and discuss them, ever expanding. The developers need a bank of ideas and opinions for shaping the direction of the Squad Leader, which is what we are going to provide them. If you think an idea is good, expand upon it, give your opinion or propose an alternative solution. Debate, compromise, negotiate, propose, share... We had a good run of this going there for a while but it started to wane as Thulium went absent. Now with a bunch of new names joining the community I feel they are walking around blind and in the dark. They/We need direction and I only hope this community can rally together to work towards making a great profession.

I amdelighted to see the increase of daily posts in the SL boards, so keep it up guys.

We're the same as we were under the last three or four SotP reports.

Maybe if we readressed those issues, and put them to a vote, we could get a "Master SotP" report together. Lets say we had ten suggestions for improvement (probably more), we could each rank them 10-1 (ten being the highest) and then add up the points for each. The suggestion that got the most total points would be our number 1, etc. That way we'd get an idea how we feal now, now that it's been a fiew months.

I agree.

Going to scour the boards tonight for the best looking ideas. Try to put up the poll then.

If there is anything super important you think should go on the list, then mssg me.

There are a few good poll/voting threads I have seen out there also. One of those might work well in our situation.

I come to the SL boards all the time causeall the flames back and forth from the other professions i have trained in dont interest me any bit.

Sure, our prof needs a MAJOR revamp. Sure, the devs are taking their sweet time. But hey, lets at least keep our heads up and generate some awesome ideas that one day might make it into SWG.

Irott: are you aware that your signature seems to seriously mess up your posts on many browsers, including mine? (IE 6). It makes it very hard to read your posts, as they only expand to take up 1/3 of the page.

Sorry about not getting the poll up... its taking a bit to organize it and I have been swamped at work.

Also, I was waiting to see if the devs or board mods noticed how my sig was hacking the boards... ^_^

Irott,

You've done a great job of being the Pseudo-corresponant lately. Has anyone heard from Thulium at all? Maybe he's in the same situation I'm in. I can't bring myself to post here anymore. We had some great discussions and brilliant ideas for the proff a few months ago. Then we've cycled through many SL's and are on a batch of all new ones who are now bringing up the new ideas and discussions again. Since we didnt' seem to get anywhere last time, I find it difficult to muster up the strength to post the old ideas again.

It would be nice to hear from someone as to where all those ideas went. I know you did compile them into a thread that has gotten huge. But without any encouragement from someone with a blue name, Whats the point?

I'm ashamed that my morale has fallen so low. I do not intend to drop SL, in fact I'm finally almost to Master SL since I've re-prioritized my role in the world. (I've been 4 0 1 4 since September). But these forums are just getting me down.

I know what you mean matadore...

Even though there has been an increase in daily posts... its all the same old stuff. These are items that have been discussed to death and I have almost no interest in trying to defend my opinion anymore. I am glad that the the good ole boys like you have stuck around, even if only posting once in a while. We are the veterans... who are going to define this profession for the following generations.

I'm still working on the poll/survey guys... I will try to get it up soon.

/salute

Hey, I still care. I admit its hard to muster up the energy to argue the same thing over and over again. But that's what we'll have to do as soon as the devs say "revamp time." Don't let your skills get rusty because when its show time we will only get one chance.

For those of you that remember me. I'm now Almost Master TKA, and alot happier. Other Character's a BH, and for the record, I'm really happy with both of them now. I pray SL gets love, but I was treading water with nothing to show for it. Mabye someday I'll come back. Good luck all.
