Thread: Rally Question Answered (sort of)

Here is this weeks answer to our 1 question:

Squad Leader

What does /rally do? (what stats does it affect? Is it a high, medium or low bonus?) The game has been out for a long time and we still have not been able to really determine what beneficial things rally does. We know it prevents you from harvesting, sitting or rezzing but we don't know what good it does. This will be important information to determine if we want to keep it for the revamp.

/rally gives To Hit and Defense Modifier bonuses to everyone in the Squad Leader’s party. The bonuses are not significant though which is why the question exists. This is something that is sure to change in the upcoming Squad Leader revamp. I know there are people looking for specific numbers, but as a general rule, you will almost never see me post the numbers. Developers believe that “figuring the numbers” is something that is fun for many players and that revealing the numbers is like a magician revealing his secret and that it takes some of the fun out of game play. Unless there is an important and specific need to post a raw number or formula on an issue, we won’t cite numbers.

Now here is my response copied from another thread:

I don't see it that way. I was hoping the devs would break their silence policy but they didn't. I can live with that because they actually did tell us two useful things:

A) They recognize that "The bonuses are not significant"

B) They intend to change rally in the SL revamp.

Now that we know that...how do we want rally changed? Add state defense modifiers? What kind of bonus would be significant? Should we get modifiers to rally in our skill lines?

On the one hand we didn't get the exact answer we wanted. On the other, we got more answer than we bargained for because we got a tiny preview of what they are thinking for the revamp.

Discussion?

TH, can you kindly answer on which professions, if certs will be added, will be able to use mandalorian armor? BH's would love to have some lovin' sooner than later if you know what I mean

Certs for Mandalorian armor will be: Bounty Hunter, Commando, Ranger and Squad Leader

Again, this says more than it says: A) We are getting Mandalorian armor certed to us. B) Armor is going to be certed. Interesting when you begin to read between the lines a little bit...

Thats cool, i'm hoping they fix rally up to do dmg bonuses as well as immune to some state effects while rallied. The cert for those professions is a great idea, i hope they put it in the master box since these professions are pretty unique right now.

I don't see how "figuring the numbers" is fun. Not for SL anyway. If you're in the middle of a huge battle "figuring the numbers" if the farthest thing from your mind, its more like "I hope /rally doesn't fail me AGAIN", and still taking a mind drain whether it does or doesn't work. Besides, a master SL already gives the group a +30 melee AND +30 range defense boost (which I think should be higher at Master SL). For one, they can decrease the failure rate of the command, and 2) increase the to-hit ratio (accuracy) and damage (min & max) for a brief period of time (around 2 minutes).
And as far as numbers go, what about the +10 Leadership that humans get that are supposed to boost SL abilities/commands??
Oh and as far as getting that Mandalorian armor, you're going to have a heck of a time completing the quest for it, i.e. the Death Watch Bunker. Expect it to be a VERY RARE item (more rare than Krayt pearls for Jedi, and more expensive).

P.S. I forgot to mention that docs and combat medics SHOULD be able to heal/rez when under the effects of /rally; I can live with the fact that you can't harvest/loot till it wears off, but healing? uh uh. Truth to tell, when you're rallied aren't you pumped up/full of adrenaline, so once the enemy is defeated and you are still under the effect, wouldn't you be harvesting/looting with more fervor and zest to grab anything to help repair items or just loot to pay to replace armor and weapons?

i dont think it grants defense bonuses at all.

When you have rally up, the icon description only states that rally is granting to-hit modifiers. The description in ctrl-s states that it SHOULD give defense mods but it is quite literally IMPOSSIBLE to tell a difference, and the to-hit mods are negligable. i think at one point i worked it out to a +5 or somehting bonus. As for defense you cant tell at all...and liek i said, when you hold the cursor over the icon it doesnt even mention defenses.

its good to hear they are going to revamp it.

one thing to make sure of is that after the revamp we can actually use it....currently if rally is used it causes a whole mess of problems which makes it a black black skill to use.

SWG Devs! Release the freaking numbers your using. If you
just release the Design Document the players will spend hours
figuring out the bugs. Right now we can tell, bugs from bad
design.

Which basically translates to : We really dont know how it works either. This part was coded by people who are no longer with the company. But we will figure it all out when we do your re-vamp.

And let people actually do things with it on for god's sake.. I can't tell you how many times I've had to appologize for Rallying. A SL should never have to appologize for trying to help their squad... totally unacceptable.

I think I've found out what Rally does:

Absolutely nothing.

Yes.. that's right! Rally is just a psychological skill that makes people think they're stronger. I was hunting, and I asked a group memberif Rally did anything to them. They said they didn't notice a change, and when I told them it made them more accurate and harder to hit, they prompty said "Yeah.. it did do that; it did help." Mind games, I tell you.
