I am new to the SL profession but in the short time I have been using it I have been also a master rifleman, and master marksman mainly so I can stay at the back and keep my distance while also lending an important hand to the rest of the group in terms of damage dealt. also having that range lets me stay back and get a decent overveiw on how things are going and where people are for shouting commands and the like

Master Doc is one of the best ways to go IF you like the play-style of being a combat support char. Never have a problem getting into a group

I play a Master SL/ Master carbineer/ BH 4-4-0-0
It works out pretty decent for me ; I can still do combat solo, and when grouped i add a nice bonus to my squad. Vefore the CU i was MSL/Master carbineer/ medic 4-4- which was nice bacause again i could do group support, really nice heals and still fight. The CU change to medic was, uhm imo kinda destroyed a medic's worth but anyways...

Right now i am a M commando M smuggler and 0003 pistoleer and right now if i use commando weapons i have 220 melee defence and 200 ranged defence. If I use a pistol i have 200 melee defence and 180 ranged defence. With squad leader and another elite profesion could i ever get that much defence on any tipe of weapon?

defence ain't much good when a pistoleer outdamages you while you use a flamer. And besides groups are not that big on AoE weapons since the agro-drawing effects go through walls/doors/floors

I have master squad leader and master ranger. Group with a pet and get all of the perks of the squad leader and can take down about anything

Well I've done this
SL + Commando
SL + pistoleer
SL + Smuggler
SL + Rifleman
SL + Rifleman
SL + Carbineer
SL + Combat Medic
SL + Combat Medic
So far i think combat medic is the funnest XD But I'd think a melee profession seems like a good SL trait...plus if u were able to attack on a mount...that'd be the perfect SL with a sword...a true army general sorta thing lol...ride in on your CuPa with your sword, shouting orders and slicing those who come into range....lol

my temp: MSL / MBH / Rifleman 4000 / Marksman 4404
with either a rifle or pistol i have base melee 175 ranged 205. get in a group and add 30 to both. add in Duelist Stance and it goes way way up. i forget the number but i think DS is a buff of 150 to both that runs on a timer that wont turn off w/ the proper macro and management. and a BE shirt (get yours when they get fixed) adds another 15 to each
grand total for this def stacker: Melee 370 Ranged 400 (this is before any SEA's)
i feel so dirty now *sob*

I am currently really enjoying Mst SL, Mst Pistoleer and CM 4000. I have good offense, good defense and I get to use my sweet Intimidator pistol very effectively (cost me 50k and is only very slightly less powerful than a 350k FWG5 that I bought . . . I think like 465 dps compared to like 473 dps). I can also provide that extra support of healing myself and my group. I am a support and an offensive asset to any group I am in.

Whatever build you have, make sure your weapon has a low SAC and that you keep some food or get some doc buffs to keep your action bar juiced up. If your not useing up your action bar with SL abilities and healing then you're not doing your job.

The best complementary professtion for SL is novice BE.
Saves you the trouble of persuading a MBE/MChef that he urgently right now wants to store his crafting tool, pick up his CDEF and go for some serious base-busting... *grin*
