Thread: I love this profession because only those competent to use it will use it

Nobody wants to bea squad leader for the perks it gives. People want a squad leader because they can generally be recognized as competent leaders and can keep them alive longer than some two-bit rifleman trying to get exp by raiding fort tusken and wanting everyone to tank for him. I good deal of the time I am squad leader I get incapacitated because I take the shots so my team doesn't have to. I'd like to see more squad leaders that do their job and not only tell people what to do but back up their strict rules with strict valor. It makes me sick seeing a squad leader flee from the front lines while his squad gets dropped and left in the dust.

Yea so this is just a rant and I thought people might want a fresh perspective on the *real* reason people chose to be squad leaders.

I agree, this is not a task for anyone and is not for the greedy minded. I have been enjoying the class more than I would expected, which is why I have not complained much about what we have now. I have yet to see another squad leader on sunnrunner and I have been one for about 9 days now. I have enjoyed the class because I can see people are having a good time while I lead them and they know I will not run when the enemies get thick. It will take a great deal of patience to be a Squad Leader, but the respect we earn from it is more than worth it.

Exactly! I just got Squad Leader two days ago, and am enjoying it immensly. And not because I'm looking forward to huge buffs and whatnot, but I just really enjoy leading the charge. I think /sysgroup itself, when properly used, can keep a group alive longer than most any buff.

Benedict, I agree totally. I'm Fencer/ almost Pistoleer, generally I start out taking pot shots from the middle of the pack. Usually once fighting has begun I cycle thru the targetsand zap each with HealthHit till they bleed, then on to the next. this tactic also affords me visibility to each mob we're attacking (20 person group of strangers at the fort). But then when a group gets in trouble or overloaded I can switch to sword and bring a dizzy-lunge (hich very very few people have that I've seen). The team enjoyed shooting Tuskens that had fallen on their backsmuch more than tuskens that shoot back

I met my demise when a captain somehow spawned at the foot of the hill and started shooting UP at my guys. I met his challenge with a flurry of sword blows all the while spamming /sys Attack: %TT and /sys Capt at foot of hill!!! Reinforcements came quickly but I was already too far gone, the vile captain managed to deathblow me seconds before tasting blaster death from our squad. Despite dying and cloning and running my arse way out back there, it was a glorious way to go.

I just got pistol melee defense 1. This had made me very popular with large groups. What I tend to do now is go through the normal targest assignment routine, yada yada. When the fighting starts, I attack the target as normal. When I see someone getting wailed on, I will stop attacking, run over and knock the offending mob on his rump. If nobody else is in trouble, I keep that mob on his backside. If I see other people in troubleI go from mob to mob laying about with my pistol whip. This really seems to boost the morale of the squad; everyone is a lot more agressive, even in the face of overwhelming odds, cause they know if they get in trouble, I am on my way with a mean backhand.

How would you react if you are getting annihilated by some Tusken, then out of the blue your squad leader cold cocks him and saves you a 6k m run? Pretty darn thankful is what I am guessing.

I have led a couple groups, but my favorite group is my 2 Sludge Panters and Probot. With the CH skill to group animals and Probot I get awesome Squad Leader xp, and the best part is that they listen to me. Although leading group is the primary reason for me to become Squad Leader, there needs to be an incentive for players to seek out Squad Leaders for group hunts/PvP etc....

Until they players see some advantage for having squad leaders leading a group, this profession is going to be seen as nice to have, but not necessary. There is room for a great deal of improvement and by reviewing changes coming looks like they are ignoring all feedback or putting it on a lower priority.

Are you forgetting about the huge bonuses to ranged and melee defense that a squad leader gives? That is more than enough reason for people to want a SL in PvE or PvP.

The bonuses to defense are not that huge, as it has been stated before they are not even noticeable. I was the only SL down in Wayfar on Eclipse till the last couple days. Now I have seen about 4 which is great. Did have one come in the cantina and start span inviting everyone to his group without even a word spoken.

I have to admit real close to getting novice squad leader andI am excited. I realize a lot of people will not even try the profession and I have to admit I like being in charge. What I have always preached to my groups in various games was TACTICS.It has nothing to do with the mechanics of the class(which will come)but just knowing how to lead and motivate. Now at least I have a profession that fits when I start rattling on about concentration of fire etc. /grin.Of course I went Commando/Squad Leader(ok stop laughing) so don't thinkI will see alot of that combination even if more people start playing SL.

Anyways glad to finally have a class that fits me.

yeah...squad leaders do seem to keep there group alive. Only because no one else is brave enough to take the first shot so we end up taking it. Which in turn gets us incaped. But then again we do have a great benefit in a group that "listens". Otherwise you get people that group just so a medic can see what there health is and heal them. So really this skill is beneficial with a group of honest mature roleplayers that can take orders and carry them out. Unfortunatley like i have so many times at Fort Tusken : DONT GO INSIDE

then one person gos inside and half the group follows and dies. Then i with the survivors go in and try to heal them or cover them until they come alive. We all pull out and go back to camp. I say "that is why you dont go inside" You always leave about 5-10 people outside to clear the spawn. **edit** sorry im really tired.

Basically SL are the most effective with group thatknow how to follow orders.

I agree. SL is a great prof, especially for those who understand the mechanics of tatics and such. But, like so many have said, far too often I wind up with a group of idiots who are more concerned with looting the target that just died rather than attacking the other two that are still alive. At least my storm trooper takes the hits long enough for me to heal em up so they can make a quick run out of range.

If you've been having groups who fight over loot and who harvests, you've been hanging out with the wrong crowd. This really isnt just a SL concern as it can affect everyone.
