Thread: Terrain Negotiation The facts
0-50 Terrain Negotiation (or in our case, group terrain) directly effects slope movement.
50-100 Terrain Negotiation directly affects prone movement...
Now as soon as myself and my ranger friend realized this all I can say is what the hell? No wonder people complain about not seeing much difference. It's a worthless boost to prone. Who moves while prone? And why does a non-sniper need this skill?
It would be much more beneficial (and make Ranger/Squad Leader in more demand to be played) if they continued to affect slope movement... or dare I say, regular terrain movement after 50?
Imagine a world where Squad Leaders have lots of specials, and lots of bonuses, and everything works....
In that world, would you think it might be more appropriate to move these sorts of bonuses to Ranger? They are the masters of terrain, it seems... they would help the group move over the terrain effectively...
Just a pet idea I have, trying to think years down the road, objectively over all professions...
First I'd like to mention is that not everyone in the game is a scout and the 0-50 part can be the difference a group could need.
Second-There is an ability called Terrian Negotiation(TN). On the scout tree(i say this not to belittle but to add clarity) We as SL either impart that ability or enhance it. Group Terrian Negotiation(GTN) is not an ability seperate from its little brother. It might seem overkill to have +60 TN and +60 GTN but try to think of it as a selfless act. Think of the Doctor who is rushing to a fallen comrade at the top of a hill or the Teras Kasi who is chasing the imperial(rebel to those on the flipside) before he makes it within his friendly turrets range.
A good leader is also a good servant to his men. Yes there is an appeal to getting better abilities but try to think of your SL as what you can get, but what you can give.

Stop Teasing. What server do you play on where you have met ANYONE out actually hunting that is not a scout along with thier other profession. Surely you jest!
I know alot of people without the scout training, especially now as people are starting to max out their characters... scout is more of an afterthought for most players... yeah, movin fast would be cool... sort of thing. As they are moving towards getting their duel master status people will start dropping their scout ish. So I can really see this working out, it's actually something I'm really looking foreward too, as it sounds like exactly what I'd be looking for in terrain negotiation. A tightly formed, consolidated group movement. This bounus ensures fairly equal movement in the group so that those stranglers dont get left behind. If the terrain bonus were just to keep increasing people's base value there would still be the same annoying shift-walking in the groups just to make sure people stay on the road.
though the ranger blastin ahead of everyone to map out the path would be rock
I guess, but I've still got 6k of combat XP till novice squad leader =*o(

My only concern with terrain negotiation granting an over-land speed bonus is that it would create individuals that move at differing speeds. Imagine a party with a squad leader, a master ranger, a novice ranger, a master scout, and a smattering of lower-scout skilled people. The only recourse would be to follow the slowest person in the group, which would frustrate everybody and more then likely it would not be the squad leader himself.
That having been said, it doesn't seem like anybody is really looking in that direction, and as Venmox said I too thought "speed song" when I learned of the squad leaders mobility bonuses. An across the board running speed boost would be desireable by many, and it would be a tangible bonus to having a squad leader running your group.
