Thread: Does anything in this profession work?

Whew I'm glad you asked this. The 5,500 other posts never addressed something like this before!
No seriously, I don't know, I just started looking into this profession.
Sysgroup works as it should, it is still practically useless but it works like they intended. If you value your skill points, and if you aren't a demon, then you shouldn't get novice squad leader.
Heres what works from my experience of using it
/sysgroup- good for prganization would be better if it had automatic diff colors
/volleyfire- good for getting the group engaged in combat on the same targer fails only about 1/3 of the tiem for me
+50 group terrain negotiation works but it only will be noticed by ppl who arent scouts, if you already have +50 personal group terrain it wont help you.
Other then that, not much else works or is worth geting atm
Look at it this way:
Novice SL: System Group Message: Very useful. Problem is its usefulness is directly proportional to the IQ of those in your group. Most folksdo readit and try andgo along with your messages, but you will find on some groups that they will just plain ignoreyou.
Terrain Negotiation Tree: No use in taking it past the first box (unless you want the Field Commander title), as in the game any terrain mod over 50 will not increase movement speed but rather crawling speed. 1st box in terrain gives +25. Almost everyone in this game has scouting exploration 1 which is +20. So the great majority of people you will group with will end up with +45.
Strategy Tree: Aim and Volley fire bonuses. SL aim command does give a nice to-hit chance, which again, just like Rally, only really helps people with really bad weapon skills (see Rally below). Volley fire is, as of now, just a fluff skill which doesnt really help group. It makes group fire 1 round of normal shot at your target then they switch back to their own targets. Problem : Only 800 ham or less creatures are actually hurt by volley fire..facing a 10K ham nest of aggressive creatures, volley fire does absolutely nothing. This ability is perhaps more useful in PVP where you could potentially ID a medic or someone you need to drop first to win and have the group smack him down in 1 shot. But then again, in pvp most people die from 2 or 3 special hits so chances are by the time you actually get the volley fire to not fail, the fight will be over.
Leadership Tree: Melee defenses which do not help gun users and help melee users only minimally (as they depend on medics anyway..players as it is now cannot tank). Form Up which removes effects.. perhaps of some use in PVP (again, fights end too fast for it to be of any use), but in PVE you can use this skill, remove the blind/stun from your players... only to see the creature inmediately re-apply them. Wasted effort and ham points for you. Boost Morale is the slap in the face for this class. To lower the survivability of every group member to bring up the survivability of one member is sheer idiocy.
Tactics : Ranged defenses. Perhaps this is the only skill tree that WORKS and helps the group to boot. Rally: In large groups (over 10) using this command is near suicide. If you fail (which is common) to rally the group your ham bars drop to40%. The commandapparently gives bonuses to hit but they arent exactly noticable unless you got someone in group that hashorrid weaponto hit stats (aka people without novice marksman skill that are shooting with a cdef). However, if you have groups with commandos or a pvp fight where people run around a lot, this ability helps loads and id say increases hits by about 60%. Retreat: Nice little ability. In PvP its very useful, especially if you got melee players or commandos with you.. you give them a free rushing and retreating ability.. which you can watch from a distance while you regain your ham bars. Literally you can keep your group running like mad and even when you out of HAM or dead, your group still has their own burst run to use if things go bad.
Form up = priceless ![]()
The passives are ok... they have a much bigger impact when u have a large group though.
Thanks tacwraith. You're the man. That's exactly the kind of response I was looking for. Something besides the l337d00d that jumped on the thread first.
Yeah, so I think I might just bypass the profession until something useful comes along with it. I've heard stories about people grouping with AT ST's then the SL hits /boostmorale or whatever distributes the damage, and the entire team falls over, incapped, like someone unplugged their brains. Just a story though, I think.
Anyway, thanks again. I was thinking about Commissar, but then again I need the SP for something useful... like Flame Cone 2.

Yes! I've graduated to l337d00d! Ceremony tonight!

There's this great new feature in forums called a search, it revolutionary.
Rumors abound of an upcoming feature that lets you browse through the pages of forum subjects...but I dont believe it.
