Thread: Devs really does this make any sense, even in a sci-world?

I am so fed up with geting a good wep and then hoping i get a good slice from a smug .Then a roll of the dicei might get a speed or damage slice.I mean with the reasoning u are using, its the same as if i took a gun, any gun, and looked at it(being a master slicer) and just randomely started just screwing with it hoping i could get some unknow effect.Rather that be a increase in speed or power.

Now i know were playing in a sci-world, and not everything makes sense, but for the love of all thats some what reasonable, how can some one thats a master of altering weapons NOT KNOW **edit** THEY ARE ALTERING?

I mean its like going to ur local mechanic AND JUST HOPING THIS MASTER OF MECHANICS,DECIDES TO MAKE UR CAR FASTER, OR EFFECIENT.i MEAN **edit**, I HATE TO USE REAL LIFE CRAP, but there are millions of people who know how to alter a gun.If i go to my local gun smith and give him my ar-15 and say plz make it a auto, instead of a semi auto , and he comes back and says, hey i increased the damage on ur wep, but its still semi-auto, i mean **edit**, its not rocket scinece.

It makes no sense that a smuggler cant choose what to alter.Sorry but of all the things that really tick me off, not being able to choose on how to alter a wep that uve spent millions of creds on really takes the cake.

Even though I agree with you completely on the realism part, "realism" itself is a big no-no in an MMORPG when talking about game mechanics.

Let's see, what would probably not be in SWG if realism was a deciding factor:

- mission terminals, especially bounty hunter terminals (hello? pulling out missions to kill someone from a public computer display?)
- calling mounts and vehicles from wherever you are out of nowhere
- an inventory where you can store more things than a bantha could carry
- the way you can just buy huge closets to store in said inventory
- having to kill thousands (!) of soldiers in order to advance in military rank (hundreds of them being highly decorated officers)
- big cities like Coronet actually being as large as your local redneck-town

... the list goes on forever.

In conclusion: Yes, its frigging silly that a master smuggler obviously isn't able to decide which part of the weapons systems he wants to alter. But realism ...nah, that argument won't work.

Shhhh... talking common sence to the devs gets you banned!

Luckly, you're talking in the Smuggler forums, they'll never see it.

True, trying to make sense,of a game that has no sense,is pointless.I give up.

hahahah that made me laugh But seriously, I totally agree with the original post. Yes I also agree that realism is not the greatest of arguements, but I have always felt that at the master level you should be able to pick which type of slice you are doing. Or, at the very least, not have to worry about getting a 16% slice. This is something that has really bothered me ever since I became a smuggler. I think that the realism argument is flawed but only to a point. I mean it just seems to be a common sense thing to me that a master smuggler should be able to have some kind of idea as the what he/she is doing to a weapon. Yes it is unrealistic that you can pull vehicles and cretures out of thin air, and that you can walk up to any terminal and get paid to kill stuff, but those are extreme examples. I think that having someone that is a MASTER of his trade actually know what he is doing is not a steep request. It just seems logical and (dare I say it) realistic that a master smuggler should be able to a) know what he is doing and b) not have to fear getting the worst possible slices. I have always thought that the complete randomness of everything associated with our profession was ridiculous. Why can't our tools have stats? Why doesn't resource quality matter? We should be able to have stats on our tools, and be able to experiment with them so that we can have great tools thus increasing the chance of a good slice. And spices, where should I begin? Aside from them being totally useless except for emergencies, they are screwed up too. Why no experimentation? Why can't I play around with experimentation and high qual resources to make my spice better than the next guy's? I swear, it seems like this whole profession was just thrown together the day before they started beta. I mean seriously, how hard would it have been to allow our tools and our spice to have stats, allow resources to matter, and allow experimentation? I think that just that alone would seriously help the profession.

HA! I'd never thought about that before. Now I'm going to grumble every time I slice a non-mechanical melee weapon.

i agree with the original poster, this randomness sucks... course the one guy had good points about this whole game bein illogical... but you cant have 5 kimos 2 kaadus a cu pa and a bantha follow you everywhere while dragging your 3 bikes now can you

not really nut think about the game economy - a random slice % is necessary - other wise you get aperfect slice everytime and no one would purchase multiple weapons to get their desired effect.

now granted we should be able to pick what we want to slice - i mean i know how to use a clamp but i dont know if im messing with a trigger or a power output regulator -

also how in the feezee can i slice a sword or a WOOD staff - doesnt a slice require some mechanical parts - that to me is funny

keep in mind they will never pleaseeveryone - so go easy on these folks they can only do but so much - its hard being god and everynow and then you screw up and let some idiot win a presidency ... oops my bad.

Actually, It kinda was. It wasn't put in until about nine days before launch. Hasn't really changed either, aside from nerfing.

I dont care if i dont get that perfect slice, when i take a wep to a master smuggeler, i really care that at least he has the choice of doing a speed or damage slice.I dont think that is so unreasonable.Of course i might get a crappy damage slice of 20% , when id like one of 34%, but at least thats better than getting a speed slice i dont need.

Call me crazy, but being able to choose between damage and speed is by no way gonna cripple the econmoy, or make everone have the same stats on a particular wep.I agree there should be some amount of randomness in the slice.Just not on the randomness of wether its speed or damage.
