Well, Tash....

Just a few minutes ago I saw your reply to my last message in the "3% Slice" thread and immediately opened a replywindow to fire back my latest salvo. But this time, for some reason, I actually paused and decided to reread your response carefully. Maybe it was those capital letters. At any rate,I actually read what you wrote this time (I think).

At that point, I wasn't convinced that what you were now saying was what you originally said. I was feeling that maybe you had changedyour story to defend yourself. But not wanting to be wrong, I went and found the very first note you wrote that started the whole string of venom. And lo and behold, you had NOT changed your story at all: It all came down to your contention that Caylin's "Slicing is Random" thread in reality offered no proof of randomness... just claims of randomness.

Damm, I thought, he may actually have a point here... that's bad for me. So I went back to page 1 of Caylins "Slicing is Random" thread (currently up to 12 pages)and started re-reading every post. Most were trivial replies that really said nothing important. As I carefully re-read page after page, I felt a growing feeling of "Oh shiit...Tash is right" growing inside of me. And I made it through all 12 pages.

I then went back and re-read,with my newly acquired sense of your point, the couple of threads where we had gone at one another. What can I say? Basically, I wasboth a Diick and a Moron, and I can't think of anything more right to do than to post my apology to you herein it's own thread. It just took one misinterpretation by me to start that pot boiling. My misinterpretation was that you were saying there was no proof ANYWHERE... while you were only saying in that thread there was no proof. As I had immediately percieved you attacking the entire lore of the Smuggler community, my anger prevented me from seeing your point. I percieved you as dead wrong from the start and that clouded my ability to read any of your other posts honestly.

In my defense, I will say that my reaction shows how much I love the Smuggler community, and am quick (obviously too quick sometimes) to defend it.

Anyways, writing this wasn't easy, but here's hoping you will accept my dinner of crow as a peace offering.

Ihenceforth will promise to slow down and try to accurately understand the issues before I draw the sword.

Way'ev-Da, although it is the offended party's choice to accept the apology or not, I gave you five stars and this is why.

First, in the many posts of yours I have seen, I have not seen many I would consider inflammatory, mean spirited, or thick headed. You have a good history.

Second, it takes quite a bit to concede a point that you have argued against for some time. Not many would go back and do the research.

A third, it takes quite a bit of strength to throw yourself at the mercy of an offended party.

Whether Tash accepts the apology or not, your post was in good form.

I should also probably reiterate that Tashunka was specifically refering to tool quality affecting randomness. Though I could offer my own 5000 slices asproof of the randomness of the percent and type (and, indeed,it was linked to in Caylin's "Slicing is Random" thread) there were no links in his thread (at the time of our great debate) that helped prove the tool quality didnt matter. Like Tash said.. just claims.

Idid make one pertinent point during our war of words that bear repeating:

Our Forum offers the proof that Caylin espouses in his thread. It may take some searching, butthe manycontributions to this forumof every smuggler and every one that used to be a smugglercreate a burden of proof that is overwhelming.

Well said, the community would be a far better place if we had more posts like this.

Admitting that you're in the wrong will get you twice as much respect as actually being in the right.

Thank you Wayne, I accept and appreciate the apology. More than that, I appreciate that you took the time to go back and look over what I had written and understand what I'd been trying to convey. I apologize if my words were unclear, I try to say what I mean but I have difficulty estimating the context the audience will apply. and of course when a point of view is carried from one thread to another, sometimes context is lost in the shift.

It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong - especially when everyone else has been standing behind him and cheering him on. I didn't think too highly of you.. until now.

Glad we were able to finally see eye-to-eye.

Thanks for the kind words... not sure I deserve them. The scary thing is I think we are probably very much alike. There is absolutely nothing that gets me madder than being accused of something that is not true. So I can most definitely understand your responses to my notes. And I don't like myself when I make a really bad error that I shouldnt make.

The good news is that sometimes I learn from my mistakes!
