Thread: Smuggling People (Taxi Service)

I ran into some noob last night that managed to get himself stuck at the Imperial Outpost on Talus and was asking for help getting somewhere easier to start out. Being a nice guy, I was about to give him some cash for the shuttle when I thought "Hey, I'm a Smuggler. I have a ship. Why not just take him myself." He fourtunatly had JTL, so I decided to give him the full experance and launched myparty barge(I'm working on getting the YT-1300 but I am a few boxes away). He really liked the ship, and was appreciative of the ride.

It got me to thinking. Why not stand outside the star port and offer to take people where they want to go for a bit over the ticket price? They are paying for the convenience of leaving when they want and not having to make extra jumps to get where they are going. I get to make a little cash and feel like I am doing something akin to smuggling by getting people past the regularshuttleroutes. (yes, I know anyone with JTL and a multiplayer ship can do the same thing.) It may not be much, but maybe it would keep things interesting until the revamp.

Has anyone else thought of this or tried it out? Is it worth doing? Would people even be interested in this service?

most people that have JTL would just use a starter ship now equiped with hyper drive unless they were also a role player and looking to aquire the services of a shady transport ala ben and luke. cool story though...gotta figure its gonna be a rare one though

In a RP sense it is a great idea as forin-game I dont think it would work because people would rather pay less and travel faster (i.e. port to port and not jump to jump). Now if people who did not have JTL could still ride in a ship I would say for sure it would work.I would like to see us have some sort of /mask tef/mask overtor /mask jedi tef skill that lets us have a real gaming reason to smuggle people off world but that's maybe for our re-vamp in 2020. Try out your idea see if it works, ya never know.

I was really hoping to be able to do something like that when JtL launched. But it's rare to do now because anyone can hyperspace (through space or starport) from anywhere to anywhere in the galaxy. So that put my little smuggling/taxi idea down the crapper.

I really wish the Devs would've made it so even those who didn't have JtL could still board an MP ship, they just couldn't interact with anything other then chairs and stuff like that (no escape pods, conduits or ship controls). That way even if someone didn't have JtL, they could still board a ship with you and you could taxi them to another planet. It would've even have been cooler if only Smugglers had the ability to take non-JtL people into their ship...

So much fun content there and the Devs passed it all by...

while people who dont have jtl cant 'board and run around' your ship, they can hitch a ride to wherever without jtl.

you dont get to see all the stuff in space, its just like using a normal shuttle, but you can bypass the jumps.
go straight from lok to dath if you want.
its just the standard loading screen.

a guildie and i tried it going around to see what missions we could pull on different planets, and i had no problem going anywhere.

Bug fixes. Heh! Smuggling. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things.

My SWG Observations

If they stopped the expansions for one year and gave quality revamps to the professions that need it most, many people would resubscribe.
With all the resubs, and the new players, there would then be plenty of money to hire enough people to do 2-4 quality revamps per year plus 1-2 larger expansions per year and/or 2-4 smaller expansions per year, and not give the BigWigs a pay cut. (Possibly even an increase)

Hey Zeon, looks like your taxi idea just flushed itself out of the toilet.

Really i think this idea would have done much better had they added more security in starports....more scanning and what not where flying with a smuggler would give you that extra 95% cushion to bypass all scans....charge a lil fee and ta da, instant taxi for a REAL reason but hey....who thinks we need to do anything.... smugglers....Smugglers.....its the S

Yeah, maybe so. I'll have to give it a try.
