After Wes made the much needed post about the community tone i decieded to make a post myself. Not about the state of the community or to whine about other proffs having "smugglerish" skills or to complain about this that or the other. I decieded to make this post for what WE Smugglers want or rather cool ideas that could go hand in hand with whats been proposed with the in concept.


Yes we have all read threads like this before but i feel it doesnt hurt to exercise the thought muscle There are many great ideas that sometimes get lost in the crowd or are posted elswhere in these forums (and i mean the world outside the smuggler forums lol).


So what follows from me are several ideas, some thought out others off the cuff as i write, for everyone to read and comment on (good or bad) and mainly to post your own ideas (and PLEASE no "I want to Smuggle posts" lol we know everyone wants to smuggle )


Trade Routes - I was gonna start with something else but this thought popped in my head To really get Smuggling to a place that feels like its smuggling i believe we first need some sort of trade route system. These routes would be used to haul large amounts of resources from planet to planet, crafter to crafter, guild to guild. It would mean impossing some sort of tax that would make it more viable to transport mass amounts of a resource rather than simply moving it yourself. It would also mean restricting how much you could store on a ship and this in turn would bring a use for the larger POB ships but also a chance to create large cargo ships with HUGE storage limits on them.


To go hand in hand with trade routes (which would be patroled by Imperials or Rebels depending on the planets afiliation) would be Smuggling routes. The knowledge of such routes would be gained through the Underworld skill with perhaps the addition of Elite routes which would be gained from doing certain story driven missions. The Trade and Smuggling routes would be additional space zones that connected the existing space zones. Due to there hazerdous nature the Smuggling routes would have restricted hyperjump points therefore meaning you couldnt simply Jump at any time. These routes would have pirates and mercs and imperial and rebel patrols throughout and would rely upon the Smugglers knowldge and skill to navigate these dangerous routes.


Nar Shaddaa - The original first idea Nar Shaddaa is something i personaly have been dying to get for years it seems. If ever there was the perfect Smuggler (and other less savoury proffesion's) hang out it would be the Smugglers moon. Now i believe something like this could be done very similier to Kashyyyk using a variety of insatanced zones. On a true planet this doesnt really work that well but for Nar Shaddaa i think it would suit it better. Imagine several zones all based around different areas of the moon. There could be the a main docking area with instanced ports that would allow you to to see your ship docked up and allow you to walk into the docking area and into your ship. This would also be home to the main Cantina that would be very different to the generic cantinas we see atm. Imagine something along the lines of Episode II but darker and grittier. Here would be the main meeting area for Smugglers, Bounty Hunters, Traders, Rebels on the run, Entertainers. The atmosphere would rich and enjoyable in a place such as this. Place BH and Smuggler mission terms/NPC's throughout as well as other more stroy driven mission givers and it would be THE place to be


It might also be possible to add true player housing within an NPC city through the use of Apartments. The idea has been put forward before and probably better but could be done similier to AO.


There would obviousley be Hutt and Black Sun controled areas with there own stroy driven missions for everyone and similier story missions for BH and Smugglers and once they have been completed you would be able to take the standard smuggling missions proposed in the in concept thread.


I dont wanna keep going on with Nar Shaddaa as many ideas i have dont just centre on Smuggler and i wanna try and keep on topic on my own thread


Smuggling Compartments - I believe that eventualy we Smugglers would need these additional ship components if we are to truly get the Smuggling expeirnce we want. CRAFTED by Shipwrights they could several stats based upon the ease of detection and the size of the storage. I also think that Shipwrights would need to perform these alterations while on the ship as a better relationship between proffs is greatly lacking atm. Sure the prices might be high but what do you expect for and illiegal modification to your ship.



Well i will leave it at that for the time being. So please feel free to post your own ideas on what you as a Smuggler want in the future or in the update to our proffession. It might be wishful thinking but hey how will the devs know if we dont say

All for it. Nar Shaddaa sounds terrific and would be a real hot spot (even after the FOTM died down).

Just want to add, that Smuggler quest/mission givers should not be restricted to Nar Shaddaa... Not implying that this was your intent, but just adding the point.

The trade routes would probably require a true underworld expansion (which I'm afraid that this is what we'll be waiting for anyway)... Faction really needs to mean something in the system (underworld version of Imp/Reb with faction trading and perks), and I think that a direct connection needs to be made to Space and Ground faction. Shooting Hutt Bombers in Space should affect Hutt faction.

Rental homes should work in an environment such as this (OT: infact, I could even see a Coruscant world in the Kash model for rental housing down the road).

Terrific post, and I sincerely hope that some true Smglr advances occur in a reasonable time frame.



Account cancelled again. Fix this flippin game. GCW, Smugglers, Player economy, enjoyable content and all bugs over 3 months old must be repaired before this game is worth the subscription. Get it, got it, done.

As for the argument of "The Jedi are bored, give them content and they'll go away." I actually do agree with you. However, there are two major problems to this argument. First, it would take a lot more coding time than just disabling the Old Man on one server. Second, all that time that would be devoted to a SINGLE PROFESSION is not being devoted to fixing bugs, adding general content, or making new expansions for the rest of the game population. So this is a classic problem of the needs of a few over the needs of the many. I can name seven professions that serve little to no purpose right now. You want more work done on one that's already absorbed an estimated 75% of the coding time for the past year. In my opinion, it's time to get the Jedi off the nipple and give the general population their turn.

I've been wanting an Underworld Expansion (In addition to having a GCW expansion) because it seems like SOE is incapable of pushing out free content.


Heck, if I was given the choice to pay for a great Smuggler revamp, I'd probably buy it. Yeah, I know it should be free, and it's an evil marketing ploy, but, whatever. I'm tired out.



Wait, that's a great idea! If we ask them to make a Smuggling expansion, that customers would BUY, thus making them richer. We could give them polls and stats about how many people would come back!

I'll reread the post later, but I totally agree on the smuggling compartments. I purchased a cargo hold for my Nova hoping I could store spice in it, and it was a huge letdown when I found out it was worthless unless you use the ship to mine with in space.

Very cool ideas....and I also think that a Smuggler Expansion wouldn't be all that bad of a thing. I would be willing to shell out the 30 buckd for some sort of underworld expansion (heck, I've already shelled out the cash for the new one, and probably not much in that I'm going to use). Maybe this would be a good way to get content...

See if they did create an Underworld expansion (and i believe originaly they were going to) it would have to cover ALL bases in the underworld. The centre of which would be Nar Shaddaa then the new trade and smuggler routes. Additional quest givers for smugglers and all proffesions. True contrband system with heavy fines and dire penaltys if caught. Player apartments could perhaps be a gift for pre-ordering Add a playable race or 2 with the option to change your characters race to any existing race (this would be so people could try the race if they wanted to) but allow them a free change back to there original race (that way if they dont like it they can change back).


I think there is a huge potential for other proffs to be involved in the underworld. Shipwrights would be adding illiegal alterations in the form of hardware and larg components.


Might be fun to include some sort of game for Poloticians to take part in. Maybe make Regional Govorners positions open and people could vote and the Pols could play dirty and back stabbing games against each other. I see something like this being PvP but using your brain and not your guns


Anyway i can smell Yorkshire Puddings and my stomach is growling for em

I also wouldn't mind a smuggler to have the ability to install a "trunk" in my swoop bike. Making it more useful for carrying STUFF that we all need, but hate having to rummang through LINES of inventory to find. Like Droid inventories. Secret compartments would be awesome! Another idea would have the ability to install a hidden pocket in clothes and such. Something that the items in that secret pocket will be more likly missed in a scan then if just in your general inventory. (IRL I owe a Scottevest, so I'm used to wearing clothes with secret compartments! check out scottevest.com to see what I mean! IRL smuggler fashion)
