Yeah, I've noticed some of this too.

What I think it all comes down to is the whole jump to 512k min requirement they did three or four months ago. Alongside that announcement came CTDs and other stuff. I think they've added stuff to the game that has increased the system resource drain beyond what most people are using. A lot of those people are the ones complaining about lag and other stuff.

I built a pretty nice system, and pay my cable bill every month. It's really starting to irk me that they're dumbing down the system because things have advanced and peoples' systems haven't.

It's thing like this that make it why they'll never do Coruscant. I'm sure I'd be a little laggy there, which means lesser computers would have to avoid it. I say oh well. I've got no problem with that.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

One of the things I liked about upgrading was being able to turn things up and see the game look better and better.
When I started playing SWG back in the beta, I had a GeForce 3.
Now I have a 9800 XT, and I had a couple cards between there, and I recently borrowed a friends GeForce 6800 BFG to see if I wanted to buy it.

I absolutely, totally, 100% understand that the game needs to be able to function on lowerish end systems within reason, but it absolutely, completely needs to scale so that DAS UBER SYSTEM MEIN GOTT can look damn fine.

I posted aboutthe dumbed-down graphicsa while back in this forum. The tiling just looks awful -- first the terrain went, then the water. I have a high end system and god this game was gorgeous before they messed with the graphics.

At the time I posted, I didn't know why things looked so bad, and Wes said he was gonna look into it. But since then, I saw inone of the publishpatch notes that SOE "optimized the terrain." So. It was deliberate. Bleah. That, plus the way our avatars move now just... well, it is infringing seriously on my immersion factor.

Can anyone confirm yet if the comuprebatbalance is gonna change things to a twitch-based system? I ask because of the recent change to the way that our avatars move, and the fact that Tiggs said in the opening post of the Focus Thread on snappy movement:"Combat Upgrade will require players to be more interactive and in order to do this players will need the ability to react quickly."

I am would bet the down grading of the graphics is because there are hoping to get an influx of new players when the new expansion hits and they want to do everything they can to keep them. New expansion is due in May same time as Episode III 10 billion people will all be jazzed about Star Wars and SOE is hoping some of the will generate new players and they want the game to be able run on everybodies crapping systems. I only have a gforce 4 mx440 and I've noticed the level of detail has gone down

I've thought of this myself, the new controls and the "snappy" movement do behave a bit more like an fps. but I doubt they'd do it. to do that with melee, everyone would need to have like a gamepad. you can't use specials in a twitch based manner. I just don't see it. but I do wonder how this "counter" system will work.

I can't confirm anything because of the obvious reasons that I don't know anything, but I can say that both the horrible movement and the tiles are usually a feature of fps-styled MMORPGs (or was it because all the fps-styled ones I've seen were the ones with some sort of a basement low-budget production? Hmm. ). I suspect it will have some kind of an impact on the combat, but, well, until we hear something official, it's pretty pointless to speculate.

There's no way they're going to turn it into a FPS. We would have bugs in a switch like that for months and it would make many skills obsolete. The lag would be unmanageable on almost any system after they implemented any sort of decent hitbox to all of the players, NPCs, and the thousands of small decor objects that litter every area.

I think they are just implementing some things that will be needed for the CURB.
