Thread: Smuggler Revamp Adding Smuggler clothes

NOTE: Before anyone posts "I want smuggling" this is in addition to, not instead off, smuggling. This would require artwork and not coding therefore including it would not hinder, slow down or limit the work Greenmarine will be doing on the main revamp.


I think its time we finaly gained more "star warsy" and most appropriately "smuggler-type" clothing. Some of these may or maynot be limited solely to the smuggler profression. Some of the clothing additions I think should be added are:


Belts/Pants


Left-sided blaster holster

The left-sided blaster holster would be strapped to a player's left leg. Idealy this would be an equipable belt, however due to the clothing system of SWG it may have to come as a new set of pants with a blaster holster attatched. In which case, it would be striped pants. There would be versions of this, an empty holster and an occupied holster. The occupied holster would contain a metal DL44-XT. Idealy, instead of having a holstered version it would be able to store a pistol which would then be displayed within the holster however this is obviously tricky coding and so a holstered/un-holstered version is more pheasable. This would be wearable by any player.


Right-sided blaster holster

Same as the left-sided holster only it appears on the right-leg.


Dualblaster holster

The dual blaster holster would have a holster on both legs. Much like the previous too, it would bost a holstered/unhostered model. This holster would be wearing ONLY by smugglers and may contain some pistol bonuses such as improved fire rate or range.


Bandoleer's


Mounted Rifle bandoleer

The mounted Rifle bandoleer is effectively a Rifle with a strap, slung over the shoulder. It would come in several different types of rifles.

Mounted Carbine bandoleer
Similar to the Rifle bandoleer, the Carbine bandoleer would effectively be a Carbine with a strap and would also come in several different versions.


Packs


Mounted Carbine pack
The mounted Carbine pack would be a military travelpack with a carbine holstered to it's side. It would come in several different forms each displaying a different Carbine. This would be wearable ONLY by a Smuggler and may include bonuses such as ranged speed and accuracy.


Cloaks/Capes


Left-shoulder drape
The left-shoulder drape iseffectively a cape that is draped over the left shoulder. This would be wearable ONLY by a Smuggler and may hold bonuses to smuggler activities such as slicing. This would work the same as a cloak in terms of clothing layer.


Right-shoulder drape
Same as the left-shoulder drape only over the right shoulder instead. Also ONLY wearable by Smugglers.


Dual-shoulder drape
A cape draped over both shoulders. This would be wearable by anyone. This would work the same as a cloak in terms of clothing layer.


These are just a handful of clothing that arnt currently ingame that would make smugglers look more "smuggler-ish". I'm sure there are more I can't think off right now... but I'd say the two important items of clothing here are the capes and the pistol holsters ... they would be the ultimate "smuggler" look and wouldnt really require an awful lot of artwork to get into the game.


For those thinking "why should only a smuggler be able to wear certain clothing?" well they shouldn't except that these types of things, especialy the dual pistol holster, tends to only be worn by smugglers in the Star Wars movies. Ofcourse that isn't a reason to limit it, but this IS a Smuggler revamp and quite frankly as a smuggler I would be much happier showing off items of clothing that others can't wear. Its pheasable that the carbine bandoleer, rifle bandoleer and pistol holsters would also require the corresponding elite profression to equip ... this would basicaly be so that you wouldn't get every single player in the galaxy with a holstered pistol. It would also allow certain templates such as a Bounty Hunter to wear a holstered pistol AND a shoulder-strapped rifle.

Ah yes, to dream about Dual Pistols...


I'd go on a total rampage.


If that were to happen, then we WOULD be a force to fight and win against Bounty Hunters. I always thought that the Equip system like that in KOTOR 1 and 2 was good.


A similar system would be nice in SWG

The whole reason I still wear armor, is because its as Smuggler as I can get...

This would be a GREAT Star Warsy addition to the game, and would bring a smile / smirk to this Rogues face.

IMHO, the clothing in this game SUX.

I always thought that a Modular Clothing system would be best - i.e. you pick a cuff style, an embroidery design, a collar style, a shirt style (long sleeve, longer body, etc...) and put it all together in a final combine - that way you have truly UNIQUE articles of clothing. Every tailor would be just that - not a clothing manufacturer.

I have always thought that is how ALL crafting projects should be. You make a vehicle, you choose a landspeeder base, choose a nose, a body, and an engine configuration...combine! Voila! You make a sword, you choose a blade type, a hilt type, and a handle type, combine and boom! Unique. Same with guns, cloths, armor would be harder...but droids....especially droids would be great! And of course starships.


You can;t tell me that it would be hard to skin 5-10 different options for each part, with 3-7 different parts to combine that is....well I don't want to do math right now, but that wouldbe a lot of different combos...and then add in different color options for each piece and you have some very unique possibilities.



On the OP idea, I think they are very cool. I know that Veela would love to have a Lando style over the shoulder cape (c'mon you KNOW you would!!!!). I would like to see these thiongs implemented, absolutely. The more things that add style and uniqueness to this profession and game as a whole should be pushed forward!

Modular crafting would be the sh-t! It might even motivate me to deal with resource hunting. As it is, crafting is boring for me. Maybe we can ask for a another CU? This time it's a CRAFTING Upgrade though instead of combat.

Tangent: I examined the pic and finally figured out why most human males in this game look like they belong in boy bands. The featurelessly smooth and hairless faces and overly large eyes. No offense intended to the player--I just don't like the way humans look in this game.


To the rest of the thread... I like the ideas of more variation in clothing, but isn't that something that would be more appropriate for a tailor revamp than smuggler?


I mean... Capes and holsters don't make you a smuggler. Capes just mean you're flamboyant, and holsters just mean you shoot stuff.

The way I see it, the smuggler revamp gives us a chance to convince the SWG art department to add stuff like this because lets face it, there will never be a tailor revamp. There are far too many other important things that will always get in the way. Clothing in this game has to be at the ultimate bottom of the pile... so this gives us a reason to bump it up the list a bit an get some cool stuff added with our vamp

Concerninng dual weild- it would overpower pistoleers and smugs but if done just for cosmetic reasons it would be cool with me. Say if I own one renegade it shows up as two that I'mdual weilding- but itsDPS output doesnt change, I can't target multiple mobsandit hasno advantage over a guy using a single wep. Just for cosmetics I think it would be ok though. We're pretty good fighters now already. They would cry nerf quick if dual weilding gave us more power in combat.

Vamp they are great idea's that have been around fora long timeand something we all want to see in the game however it would not be fair for Smugglers and no one else to get them. Holsters and the like need to be avalible to every player regardless of profession.
