Thread: Mobs breaking concussion shot and warping to your position
Confusing message huh? I hope someone understands it and confirm its not just me.
it's positional lag, meaning our SWG clients are not updating the mob's positional appearance to match the server's position.
I know this is semantics but it has always kind of bugged me. Lag was a slang term for a high latency (ping)causing your pc to lag behind the server. It has since been basterdize by those who don't know much about computersto mean anything on a computer which slows down. Whatever, that's the nature of language, to evolve. So to that end, I've decided to specify lag. System Lag and Network Lag. System lag would be where your computer is having a hard time processing the data and seems to slow down. That would be those times when your frame rate goes to sh-t. Network lag would be what was talked about here. Synchronization with the server. It would also be things like high latency causing the same thing but whatever the cause, the problem is with the network, not with your system.
To that end, I believe this problem isn't entirely network lag. I think that's part of it but it's always seemed to me as though concussion shot doesn't work as intended. If you read the description, it says the root is supposed to break if any damage is taken. The problem may lay in that some bit of code is conflicting with some other code and you're getting anomolies in the program.
you'll root the target and start shooting it only to hear that "grunt" sound and see you're taking damage when the mob appears 20m away!
then when you finally kill the mob, it magically slides towards you and stops right beneath your feet.
from what i understand it is a positional lag problem. and i dunno if or when they plan on fixing this, but it's a big deal because if you can't tell how far your target is from you at all times, how can you fight efficiently?
I never had these problems in (dare I say it...) City of Heroes.
THERE! I said it...

I suspect you are correct. There appear to be two types, and the one I was describing was the warp. They just appear at your position, usually centered on top of you. A second one, I'll buy as network lag, since I actually see them walk - albiet with a /forcerun + /burstrun pace - to my position. The first one I'm certain is a bug. The second I've suspected is just server/client sync. I'll start bugging these and maybe Wes can find an answer for us?
