As the title says. Whats the point? Now that the devs have got it, 'working as intended', I am not sure what i would use improved concussion shot for, now that it it breaks on damage. I know what youre thinking, '. You use it for controlling the crowd. See?'. But, if i am in a group, say fighting necrosis, I can see myself in the group saying, 'right guys its getting pretty bad here let me control him. Stop him doing damage. Got him. Good. 40 secs of no one doing nothing on either side. Necrosis is quiet. Were quiet. Everything is quiet. Great! Now we can stand here and do nothing and think about our next move. Wait!!!!! W#T@F? are you doing. Dont hit him! No ! NO. SWEET JEBUS! You f***.' Then get the message, 'you have cloned at the nearest spawn point.' In the aformentioned scenario, it seems, this is typical of what is to come for me if I continue to use concussion shot. Hey, but what do i know, im probably not playing the game right. I just thought i'd post my thoughts on what I think it will be like for me. Any thoughts?

Hey I haven't tried the hard setting yet.... Does that mean you have to do a Dance Flourish every 2 seconds instead of 3?
Now you've got me in a lather....

I'm guessing you've never played another MMO.

As a mezz, it can be very very useful in multi-mob situations. If you are fighting three tough opponents, you could mezz the two and the group concentrates their fire on one at a time. Or you can avoid unintended adds and make fighting social mobs quite easier. In such a situation you certainly make life easier for docs and combat medics.
However, for a 5 in crowd control, I'd consider that a root is necessary, although an unbreakable root is quite unbalancing. In other games, mezz breaks on damage, root has a chance to break on damage and can be a good second resort. In SWG this would help in keeping melee mobs far in the beginning of the fight, inflict some damage and then the mob would finally get to attack.
So, what I'd like to see is an addition of a stopping shot ability to the smuggler profession, but I think roots should have a chance to break when damage is dealt.

It's true that the root was totally unbalanced as it stood and needed to be fixed. The point that I was trying to get, across not so well, in a round about way, is smuggler is a bit redundant next to pistoleer. I might respec to pistoleer/rifleman with the rest of my skill points staying in smuggler. I love the idea of being a smuggler but again smuggler is starting to look innefective in combat. Someone made the point our only good damage dealing special is last ditch. But again, their is only a very limited amount of time you can use it.I suppose thats gonna change with root shot gone though. I was reading the pistoleer forums and someonme was whining about stopping shot be moved to master pistoleer. Everyone seems to be whining about getting all their specials moved to the master box. Whine whine whine this game has turned into. I'm even doing it. I never write on the forums. I just read them every day. lol. BTW The only other mmorpg Ive played is Guild Wars. I played as a Warrior/Necromancer for a week then got bored at the lack of depth to the community. But I never used any of the Necromancer specials.

Pistoleers whine about stopping shot because it's quite frequent that other professions spend any spare skill points go to pistoleer xxx3 for improved stopping shot and they want it just for themselves. That ability is on high demand and quite understandably. For example, it makes it really easy to group hunt krayts, you keep them at a distance and safely shoot it till it's dead without any danger.
Having an unbreakable root makes some fights extremely easy, esp. one with such a long duration as Concussion Shot before being fixed, like in the situation described above.
Traditionally, from other MMORPGs, crowd controllers have the following abilities:
- Mezzmerize, which is considered vital. It makes battles easier and a relative guarantee that your group will survive any unwanted attention from adds. And pistoleers don't get that.
- Breakable root (chance to break on damage, short duration), serves in starting combat with an advantage and a final resort if mezz fails. We don't get that.
- Snare, usually to run away from a fight or kite. Both professions get it.
- Stun (high chance to break on damage, very short duration), which is more like a very short mezzmerize. But Panic Shot is more or less like this, so we do get that ability.
- Charm. The opponent gets charmed and either simply follows you or attacks as your pet for a short period of time.
In SWG, there are two "best" crowd controlling professions and they do need to be different, in abilities and strategy. If you want to be an excellent crowd controller, you can simply get both professions, else you decide to select the one with the abilities you prefer.

From what I've heard, only the "DAZED" state breals on damage. The "ROOT" state hasnt been touched. Works exactly the same way it worked before

Ah well, I'll mess about with smuggler rifleman for a bit and see how it goes. Might enjoy it.

Sorry man - the Root and Daze are not separate states - they are one state. that ONE state will break on damage - root and all
