hello all

Just want to ask which profession i should pick up
i am really lost

i thought i do smuggler but i read on so many boards that smuggler is just for "lovers", its not suitable with pvp , nor can you do mokks or jantas quick with it.
earning money with spices days are count since brandy
and slicing mission terminals isnt worth the skillpoints you need to spend for
feign death just makes you helpless against attacks and with mokks anmd jantas you earn much quicker money than with slicing weapons and armors

well...these statements destroyed all my joy in that profession, just pistols 4 of marksman and i could take it up but now im very confused

of course i just can be TKA or Pistoleer or Commando or something like that as 2nd profession in order to kill mokks and jantas quicker but i dont know if its worth grinding smuggler, weeks or days of hard work, just to find out nothing i can do but slice for little money

i was working on rifleman before but really, i dont like rifles in this game, sound is rubbish , no star wars feeling, sound of pistols or carabeneers fit me better

but heard i should never take on carabeener, its very bugged too much hamcost, i will kill myself if i spam specials in my composite, that scares me off

so what is left?

commando seems so nice, like in "good old shooter style" you swing your flamer and throw some grenades,. but i heard a flamer just is useful to apply a DOT .
well you know i dont want to PVP anyway, but i want to have fun slaining mokks and jantas , so if i cant burn them to hell but just tip them once and change back to a pistol this wouldnt be fun to me anymore

and i was swordsman before, no need to become it again, and dont want to be TKA like 90% of all other players are
so i am just lost in space, err, swg

maybe somebody has a nice idea for me what to become, maybe a nice very funny to play template
i dont know

if all fails maybe i just become a dancer but honestly, i dont want to join all that zombie dancers in cantina. i want to play with 5the people in front of starport not stand around "hidden" in a cantina
and well imagedesign hmmmm, takes way too long with that new timers to get to master

i have fun killing naffs and fun killing mokks and jantas
just dont want to do swordsman again, dropped that just some days ago !
same with doc, was fun, was nice, got me nice money but dropped and want to start PLAYING this game

yes of course i can try crafting but honmestly...i hate crafting ! i want to play not to work

hmm

If you're going to PvP, pick up Doctor and TKA or Rifleman - there is a reason why 90pct of all server population uses these professions.

If you're not PvPing, then play smuggler + Whatever. Its pointless to worry about a combat loadout without knowing what the Combat Rebalance will do to these professions.

personally i wouldn't pay attention to what other people are saying about the down sides of XX profession, you should choose something that you think you will enjoy playing

Commandos kick ass all over the show, a friend of mine is master commando and theres nothing i haven't seen him torch with his flamethrower, and if you enjoy using guns (which it sounds like you do) the prerequisite of master marks + all the heavy weaponry you get with commando means you have quite an array at your disposal

Also I think its worth to note that a smuggler/commando fulfills two of the necessary roles to shut down a faction base, another thing that might turn you on there.

As Kal said, the combat revamp is expected to change the face of pvp/pve in untold ways, so play to your enjoyment, not what you think you "should" do. I know how you feel about the guns, my favourite rifle was the Tusken 'cos of the noise it makes, and there are some great carbines for realistic gun effects.

I don't know about carbine specials hurting your HAM so much - so what, get some encumbrance sliced armour ........i have a BH/Carbineer friend who is simply *Murder* with a carbine

Most fun for you, i'd say dabble, master marksman for sure, take novice smuggler, novice commando (both have the unarmed 4 prerequisite) and why not take novice BH as well (shares the master marks prerequisite as commando) then you've got plenty of profs to dabble with. My BH/Carbine friend did just that, and worked his favourite parts from each prof until he decided he would like to concentrate on mastering them individually.

Well thats my opinion for you

Smuggler can be a fun profession to play if you make it that way. The best is meeting people in dark alleys to train them or "enhance" their weapons.

As for a second prof to go with it really you need to do what is right for you. I was a Master Smuggler/Novice Commando for a while and loved my Flamethrower I ended up dropping commando and going all the way up to TKM and I've enjoyed that more than anything.

I can use my TKM to kill Jantas and make some money...I also have the scout skills to hunt when a good meat or hide is out that people need, and to top it off I like to slice for friends and guildmates.

Most of all just find what you like. Dabble a bit and find your niche

For the longest time I was Master Pistoleer, Master Smuggler, 4000 TKA. Then some scout and medic...

Then I begame, Master Smuggler, 0043 Pistoleer, 0040 BH. I had TONS of fun with that combination. Speed cap, and eyeshot.

Both are capable of doing mokks.

Actually, as a Master Smuggler, BH 0-0-4-0, Pistoleer 1-0-0-1, I carve up Mokks and Jantas. Not much good against another player though.

If you're all about PvP, stay away from ranged. Right now the Melee folks are much better. Or at least couple a ranged with Melee. Pistoleer/Fencer is the dodge king, for example.

For PvE, pistols aren't as good... we just don't dish out the damage that some of the other proffesions do. My Master Rifleman buddy can max out rifle and combat xp in about 3 hours running around on Yavin. For me, it would probably take at least 5 hours. Also, we don't get anything above AP1, and that is a big disadvantage in PvE.

Under Master Level, things are more balanced... we have speed, they have damage. But at the Master level, things are much less balanced, 'cuz it's not too difficult to bring rifles up to the speed cap. Now they're just as fast as us but with more damage.

We Smugglers smuggle because we love the profession. Everything from FP deals to Slicing, to shootin' the enemy in the 'nads. But we really need to couple the profession with other things to be really effective. Try Master Pistoleer/Smuggler/TKM. Very popular. Another popular combo is Master Pistoleer/Rogue (the pistol line of smuggler)/Desperato (pistol line of BH)/Novice Commando. My template is Master Marksman/Pistoleer/Smuggler. It's not as effective as those other two, but I get to use some fun rifles and carbines.
