I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but with the recent nerfing of feign death, it has come to my attention how widely this skill is used by jedi, and because of their blatant use of it when attacked by bh's, has caused our profession to take all the hits.. If you all could sign my petition to put feign death in the master smuggler box, and restore its no-incap no-deathblow status in pvp, maybe we could regain one of the best things about our profession, which has been swept to the sidelines too much as it is.
Thanks for all your input

I was at first comtemplating this idea a couple months ago. Moving FD to the Master Smuggler box seems, for all ensuing purposes, to be the 'right' thing to do.
But after lots of consideration, it's not the way to fix it.
First (and most importantly,) what happens when Smuggler Bounties are introduced into the game? There will be another outcry by BHs that they cannot kill their mark. FD will then be nerfed the way it is now.
Second, what happens to the Novice Smuggler, who needs FD in PvE to get 2 million pistol exp? At least it's useful where it is now in PvE. Moving it to the Master Box would only hurt the Novice Smuggler.
Third, Tiggs has made it perfectly clear that no red names will really give any credence to Polls or Petitions.
So, in effect, I can't sign your petition, noble as it may be.

Mist,
Your 'when smugglers are on BH terms' is a valid argument even though I was a proponent of moving it to Masters box. I was for doing that out of a expedience to get rid of the bulk of the problem as quickly and easily as possible. Unfortunately they waited SO long to do anything about it that expedience as a reason kind of went out the window.
I did all my Smuggler and Pistoleer exp without using FD one time so I don't think that is a good reason to leave it where it is though. It really isn't all that necessary for new Smugglers to use FD to get through the skill trees quickly. Buffs and decent armor are plenty enough.
I can't imagine seeing Smugglers on BH terms any time soon. There would have to first be in place a really good reason to land on the terms. I wouldn't get on the terms over slicing or spices...they simply don't make as much money as other things and I don't particularly think they're all that fun after doing them for this long. Any actual smuggling content would be a reason but it would need to have rewards commenserate with the headache of getting on BH terms.
Personally I think being on BH terms now and then would be amusing, but not for some low-reward pseudo-smuggling mission that gets boring after a few times through. When we can smuggle players or smuggle for players and each instance is different and interactive with the playerbase THEN being on the BH terms might be worth it. I just don't envision anything like that coming our way over the next year.

I am aiming for Master Smuggler/Master Armorsmith, with minor skills in scout and artisan for harvesting and merchant. I am EXTREMELY worried.
How the HELL am I supposed to defend myself against a bounty hunter? At the moment, Jedi and BH can go toe-to-toe and both can hold their own for the most part. But if Smuggler is not a combat profession--if we get bounties put on us, how are we supposed to defend ourselves? Don't EVEN tell me that a Master Pistoleer/Master Smuggler will be able to hold their own against the BHs. Getting bounties put on us is going to force us to either make people come to our house to do business, or pick up more combat skills. Or hire bodyguards.
What will put us on the terminals? Slicing in public? Wearing the Fixer/Slicer/etc tag? Selling spice? I don't mind that there are risks involved with our activites, but I do hope there will be peaceful ways to get the bounties removed--pay them off at a BH terminal, have the option to come quietly (pfft, whatuber-1337 BH would ever do that), slice the terminals to getthe bountyremoved, etc. Or, it'd be nice if there were areas (like Mos Eisley or Kadarra) where we can practice our profession without gaining visibility, or maybe even limit it to cantinas.
Bounty hunterscan bepaid to bring people in dead or alive, and I'd prefer to be alive, thank you very much.
I've only been playing2 months and have almostmade it toMS (two more underworld boxes), but if being a Smuggler is going to force me to PvP then the skill points can be better spent elsewhere.

That look a bit like the suggestion Dreven I think made, to make BH, Jedi and Smuggler three professions with a restriction: when you pick up one of them, you can't have skills in the two others.
But in your suggestion like in that one I see a problem: The game is geared toward the ability to pick and choose skills. They won't start a process that would eventually, if extended, create what they wanted to avoid at all cost with the skill point system: cookie cutter templates. In a nuttshell, dabbling is part of the game and they won't restrict that in any way.
Oh, and no flaming at all

Mist has it right on the head. Moving it to the master box is a poor way "to get rid of the bulk of the problem". The unescapable picture to me is that the skill is poorly designed for PvP, period. Moving a poor skill does NOTHING to actually make a change to the skill itself. The skill itself was the problem, and not the location.
No matter where you move the turd on your dinner plate, it is still there.
Bounty missions on smugglers are coming like it or not. I do admire your fire to call for smugglers being more combat capable to deal with BH's, but often you can come across as telling SOE to go **** themselves for even thinking of putting smugglers on the terms - a sentiment I will never agree with. It is Star Wars. Smugglers need to be hunted. It's like apple pie with ice cream on top: savory, exciting, and all the difference in the world.

Oh I agree completely they need to be hunted. I also agree that FD was screwed up for PvP and though I supported moving it to the masters box I think the expedience in that was long lost.
I'm not trying to stop Smugglers from being on the terms at all. I just think we need to be hunted for something valuable and interesting enough to be on the terms for.
I'm a Smuggler...I took this profession to SMUGGLE. I didn't take this profession with the intent of being a rabbit running from BHs. That should be a CONSEQUENCE of smuggling, not the goal of the profession.
So in essence I think we agree. We both want to smuggle and we both think the consequence of doing so should, without the proper care, land us on BH terms. Maybe I'm just asking for something really worthwhile to smuggle for other players...like other players or a wide range of contraband that players need moved through scan checkpoints. What I don't want are lame, boring-after-a-few-times missions similar to the JTL 'smuggling' missions.

Gave a 5-star to the author as it was done out of concern for our profession, though I disagree. 5-stars for Veela for getting to the reason why it shouldn't happen.

I agree 100%. Your point that the essence of our profession should be smuggling is great. It would be a nice thing to see this essence realized without a number of glitzy, shiny things like smuggler bounties covering up a poor smuggling system.
This really gets me to thinking about the true essence of being a smuggler in the SW universe. Hmmmmm, too bad I have a ton of stuff to read for one of my classes ![]()
