I agree to a point but if it's put in rp terms, it may become a little clearer. Faction points can be thought of a player's prestige in the faction and the rank 'cements' that prestige at a certain level. For me to boost your prestige in the faction, i've got to be somewhat known to that faction. The better known (higher 'cemented' prestige) the better my good word is going be for your name. Thus, colonels give the best faction boost.
That's how i've reconsiled to it anyway.

I see your point but my line of thinking is that the Master Smuggler should be able to easily 'persuade' a faction recruiter (whom im sure does not know every member of said faction intimately) that he is something hes not... i.e. a Colonel

Well as a master smuggler you can get all the badges and awards both sides offer pretty easy. You can do all 9 vette quests. Think about it would you give a newly minted imperial private the keys to a major base?

You would think that being a Master Suggler you would remain Neutral ( as i have )thus being able to work both sides toward your own gain? As far as I understand it i must become a Colonel in either Reb or Imp in order to get the best returns/rates on faction selling. This makes zero sense to me as i feel it negates the fact that i am indeed supposed to be some rogue in the galaxy out for my own reward and profit. Yes i realize for the 'movie-example' folks that are going to answer that Han and Lando were both Rebel Generals, but they weren't always as such....They had a true smuggler past, shady and profitable as it should be.
Point im trying to make is that just by being a Master Smuggler you should get the best returns/rate to sell faction as being a Colonel in any faction shouldnt make a difference. We are Smugglers. We want profit not rank.
