Thread: How's this sound for a character mini-slice FAQ? (semi long)

I need something to put in my character description because I'm tired of getting the old "Can you slice my weapon (or armor) for 100%?" tells. People out there don't seem to know just how overly complicated the slicing system has become, and just how hard it is for us to get the components required.

I charge a base rate of 50k for each item sliced. I also charge more depending on the components used. Since I can't make the components, prices vary depending on the price I have to buy them for. You can chose to have a partial slice done for now and have the rest sliced later, but I will charge my base rate for each session.

If you supply the components, I'll only charge my base rate. Some components I stock, some I don't. Ask for a quote on a specific slice, and I'll get back to you on a price. I know it's expensive, but I could just as easily be out making money by doing missions or farming loot. Personally I don't even like this slicing system, but SOE doesn't seem to want to listen to the smugglers that have to use it.

Popular slices for WEAPONS:

First off, make sure your weapon isn't speed or damage capped, or close to it. There's a partial listing of weapon caps at: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=smuggler&message.id=217898

I am not responsible for weapons that hit the caps while being sliced. There will under no circumstances be any reimbursement for this should it happen. Best thing to do is to check the weapon cap listing before deciding on a slice, but even then I can't be 100% sure I won't hit some kind of invisible cap.

Most looted or quest weapons from Kash have plenty of room for any slice, but enhanced crafted weapons tend to be damage capped or close to it. Quest weapon from other planets tend to have lower damage caps.

There's a handy slice assistant here: http://www.soal-swg.com/slice.html

131 slice (2% speed, 8% damage, 3% critical strike chance, 100% custom rating): Good all around slice for most loot and quest weapons. Good damage when using specials, and easy on the action pool. Requires 1 simple toolkit and 1 Illegal Core booster.

400 slice (12% speed, 100% custom rating): Good for damage capped but not speed capped weapons, or people who don't use many special attacks. This is usually the

highest DPS slice, but is hard on the action pool if you use many special attacks. Requires 1 simple toolkit, 1 finely crafted toolset, and 1 delicate trigger assembly.

003 slice (10% critical strike chance, 100% custom rating): Great weapon slice for your expensive crafted weapons that are already damage and speed capped, or very close to it. Requires 1 simple toolkit, 1 finely crafted toolset, and 1 delicate trigger assembly.

220 slice (4% speed, 4% damage, 85% custom rating): Inexpensive slice for grind or other weapons that you don't want to spend a lot on. Requires 2 simple toolkits, of which I have a large stock of for now.

Popular slices for ARMOR:

Slices only protect the piece of armor that they are on, not the whole suit. Meaning if you only have your helm sliced, the effects will only take place when you get hit in the head, and not the rest of the areas.

0113 slice (75% armor break effect reduction, 1% hardening-reduces damage taken by 50%, 20% impact deflection-reduces armor decay, 100% custom rating): Good PvP armor slice with the armor break reduction and reduced decay. Requires 1 Shock Absorbent Padding, 1 Reactive Micro Plating.

1300 slice (40% resilience slice-delays loss of effectiveness until the armor reaches below 40% condition, 60% impact deflection-reduces armor decay, 100% custom rating): Good slice for grind armors, as the armor will last longer and won't start losing effectiveness until 40% decay. Requires 1 finely crafted toolset, 1 powered motivator.

0310 slice (60% impact deflection-reduces armor decay, 1% hardening-chance for armor to reduce incoming damage by 50%, 90% custom rating): Another good grind armor slice, especially if you keep your armor under good repair. Armor decays slower, and adds a very slight chance for a reduction in damage that would have been taken had the armor not been slice for hardening. Requires 1 finely crafted toolset, 1 powered motivator.

0230 slice (40% impact deflection-reduces armor decay, 3% hardening-chance for armor to reduce incoming damage by 50%, 100% custom rating): All around armor slice for those that use one set of armor for grinding and ranged PvP. Requires 1 finely crafted toolset, 1 Trandosan Infraframe, 1 Mandalorian Infraframe.

There are other combinations available, but it's too complicated for me to remember offhand. For more information, read the smuggler FAQ at: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=smuggler&message.id=206104

I thought the NGE couldn't be any worse than the CU, but I was wrong.

Bah, this doesn't even come close to fitting into my character description, so I guess I'm just going to have to either macro it, or copy it to my /note pad and spam it back after somebody asks.

WTH did SOE have to make slicing so complicated post CU for anyway?

Great post! It's nice to be able to learn some of this stuff so we can try to use a smuggler's service without being completely ignorant. Thanks!

Well, this stuff is all available from the FAQ or posts linked from the important links thread. I was just looking for something I could use as a mini-FAQ ingame. I can't take credit for any of the info there, as it was all leached from other posts in this forum.
