I was talking to a friend, and told him my current skillset. His response was 'you can't do anything'.
Now, of course, this puzzles me. I'm smuggler 1414, pistoleer 0042, scount 4040, novice medic, marksman 3424, and entertainer 0010. With that, I can do plenty. Why, just twenty minutes later, he was complaining about terrain negotiation. *grins* He then started talking about ideas for Underworld, adding abilities to essentially mask your faction, to make it useful. I responded that it would rock, but I'd like to see less GCW and PvP centered things, as well. Naturally his response was 'this game is about the gcw.' I almost replied 'well maybe if the GCW WORKED properly' but refrained.
It just irritates me, that there are people who think one has to be 'uber' in order to be useful and have fun. Hello, who is the one that slices most of his weapons? Me! lol. And he has the gall to complain about my slices when master smugglers don't get much better, or slices on stats he didn't want. (the worst insult was telling me to drop slicing..I refuse to ever go through the locked container grind. Ever. Again)
But, I can have fun. Just the other night, another friend and I wandered into the Warren with about 5 minutes left on our buffs. They'd worn off by the time we got past the turret....and you know what? Wandering around there in fear, I had one of the best times in this game, so far. Because I was just strong enough to do decent damage, and I could heal myself, and my friend. I got the fourth journal by burst running while being chased by 10-15 rogue droids, lol. It was a blast. And that's all that matters. We really depend on buffs too much =/ And uber 'templates.' Templates, in a ROLEplaying game...blasphemy, IMO.
So I'll have fun being weak with my pistols, slowly crawling up the pistoleer and smuggler trees (its sad that I felt like I had to get some pistoleer skills in order to get xp for smuggler at a decent rate) dabbling in other professions (both TKN and BH are on my list...I say TK novice because I just want to get there and test it out for a little while, I don't intend to go very far into it).
Of course, he was right on one thing. 'Stop complaining, Smuggler will never be fixed. Ever!'

Good call. If you're having fun and you're not hurting anyone, that's all that matters.
Good on you! And I agree what you mean about relying on buffs, etc. I recall at the beginning of the game, when you had to run away from the big creatures like your bum was on fire! Man, that was fun.

I'm a bit like you, a jacky-of-all-trades. I don't pvp either, so I don't have to follow the whole FOTM crap or anything. Sometimes I feel I could be spending my SP in higher end stuff, but then someone comes along who needs a bit of healing or something, and there's nobody else around. It's then that they appreciate you and you feel like your mix and match template is worthwhile.
All power to you buddy. At the end of the day, it's whatever floats your boat. Don't ever let people tell you what 'is best' or 'what this game is all about'.. (hehe, being hypocritical, this game is not marketed as a PVP game. It is advertised as a Roleplaying Game...)

I'm a smuggler by choice. Was a commando by choice, medic by choice, scout, ranger, rifleman, artisan, ch,and pistoleer by choice. Hologround three professions(fencer, carbineer, dancer) cause I wasn't sure what I wanted to do after I dropped commando. Realised the most fun I've had was doing a melee profession so I'm now mastering pikeman (it's just cool). So I'll be an over-sized stick, wielding smuggler. Because I like the idea of smugglers being tough buggers to kill, my remaining skill points are being distributed to get me the best defenses I can get. You know what though? I'm still not uber and it's alright because I'm having fun again.

Well I say play what you want.. You got a good all around self sufficent templet if there ever was one. With a few changes here and there it would be ideal for mid level content. Looks like your still working on trying a few profs. You seem to be in the right direction. Myself, I mastered TKA because it ended up being really fun. Don't let others tell you how to templet stack. If you ask for advice then thats all good but if your happy with your templet and just having fun then the game will be all that much more fun for you longer. You may not have a good pvp templet but maybe your friend doesn't have that great of pve one. He plays his game and you play yours. You'll be that much more happy in the end if you play how and what you want. Good post mate.

Yep, there are lots of ways to have fun, I think, without being a power gamer. Why, just today, my friend made me an extra food/chem crafting tool (we needed nuetron pixie.....badly, lol 'spice addict' he calls me >_>, spice 'peddler' too
) And this is what he titled it:
"Misume's Portable Spice Lab --Engraving-- *Legalize Spice!*"

hahaha yeah..I remember a group of us doing Kamurith missions on dathomir, I think we had like 12 people in the group. We'd managed to avoid rancors for ages...then all of a sudden this red dot appears on radar and runs at one fo the group. was a lone NS ranger...it killed every signle one of us...Was much better when they still used the force, and no buffs either..those NS and other high level mobs were something to fear..

Unfortunately I'm stuck on a server that doesn't really pander to Rp. But I'm too attached to my character to start over. All my alts are barely touched

I feel your pain...I try to rp whenever I get the chance, but.... /sigh
It doesn't seem to sink in that you are role-playing to a lot of people, but there are some of us running around on the server ![]()
If you are ever bored, send me a /tell and we can figure something out ![]()

I think I shall. And if your reb, worry not, my character is beginning to feel dissatisfied with the empire. She even felt guilty doing those missions for the Emperor and Vader, once the awe wore off
