I've been away for a while so this idea may have been brought up before.
I'm just tired of hidden calculations determining my smuggling capabilities. What if there areas of space around planets that were scanned for contraband, people with bonties on them or what ever you were smuggling. But withing these areas there were "coridors" that where not scanned that you would have to fly you ship through. If your ship touched the side of a corridor then you would get scanned if you got through then you were free to fly of with your cargo.
Then it would take some skill to smuggle. I can just imagin rolling and banking hard to make it through this tunnel that cuts through an area of scanned space. It would give us something to do and if there were only really hard corridors to get to some planets then you would have to find really good pilots to get you there.
I don't know how hard this would be to make. It could even be an instanced event as you wouldn't need any outside help. And if your passangers could see you do it, from an external view and saw how good you were they could recommend you to friends that needed smuggling.
What are your thoughts.

To beat the lag problem could you not just havethecorridors downloaded to your computer. You fly throught it on your machine then you link up with the server again once you are through and the server gets told if you made it. I supose then it is open to some kind of hacking. But maybe if the corridors are randomly generated it might provide some protection against cheating.
