I do, we need a way to be Info brokers, however , the spatial spam must go I realy wish that players would just use the search/bazzar/find a merchant to sell your stuff to rather than resorting to calcuta urchin methods.....ever been to nogales or tijauna mexico.....and im sure there are many places like them around the world........people lining the streets selling cheesy merchandise badgering any and all that walk by....its like a swapmeet without the manners ans civility.

so anyway i do agree but we need to remove the "selling X Y Z for A B C please send tell" spam

I like the idea of an 'underworld' channel.

so do I, do you think we could start asking for this with the smuggler revamp?

would a smuggler only channel be to difficult to put in? Chat is buggy as it is already.

RP response 'we slice into the communication network...'

Maybe make a Smuggler have to slice a specific type of terminaly to make it happen ... or maybe get a part from a Jawa.

Takes Underworld I to talk to a Jawa ... takes UW 1 to slice into the terminal ... both skills go hand in hand.

It was their intent to put a "Profession Chat" channel in with this patch but at the last minute they pulled it (and the factional channels) due to tech trouble.

yeah if they could work out hte tech troble a proffesion chat would make this idea a reality

just forget about the time line it nolonger exits her hasn't for some time. we're in a virtual star wars universe and it our time line not the movies. so its what we make of this universe ourselves. once this is realized then you'll start having fun

I love the idea of an Underworld Channel.

From a realistic perspecitve, I look at the Auction Channel, sort of as SWG in-game version of E-Bay.

It sounds cool but it would probably work like the new auction channel. You slice into it and you lose all your email, friends lists and ability to send tells

These are great ideas. some things i want to adress though. If we're going to try to make SWG as realistic as possible. we need those barkers. the spatial spam is equivalent to our moedern day bill boards and telemarketers etc.

As far as the profession wide chat. That would be totally counterproductive to the propsed "underworld" channel. It still cuts the middle man out. After all, smugglers are always the middle man. If not for playing middle man, we're just a bunch of gambling fools. Sure we can ship things in and out, but that won't happen until JTL.

How about this idea. We do away with the planet wide and galaxy wide channels. We add the underworld channel which you would have to slice into. This channel would have a buffer so that although we can only access at slicing terminals for a breif moment, we could read info that other smugglers are sharing, i.e. who's buying what at what price. etc. and I suppose master smugglers get a special unit that allows them to stay close to the underworld goings on 24/7 such as imp and reb troop movements.

As far as counterspamming, which is clearly why they made these channels, we have a barker channel that is separate from spatial that is kept within a certain radius, e.g. the radius distance that a normal /shout would cover. and anyone within that radius will pickup on what was said within their barker channel. what do you think?

Do you all think a dev would listen to this. I was having so much fun with smuggler becuase i would be able to make contacts here and there and move products. I felt like a more streetwise businessman. And with this new addition, it's pointless.

I like this idea - but how about if there was some sort of "special" relationship between Smugglers and Merchants. If there was some sort of Imperial sales tax we could forgoe when moving goods?

I don't know about you folks. But smuggler is my first love. And the problem i have (and need some input on this before going to the devs about it), is how this new auction channel is supposed to make this SWG world realistic. The thing is, after re aquainting myself to star wars lore, the basic smuggler made most of his profits by connecting people together and playing middle man to them. But it's a matter of only days before my contacts begin to find each other and leave me in the cold. I don't know, this is just my initial reaction to this new auction channel.

On a separate note. after 1/2 way through "the last command", i began to realize that han, lando, talon, and other big smugglers had a special way of contacting each other, as if they were all connected together through the underworld. Which got me thinking, what if we made this "auction channel" something a smuggler would get in like the 3rd block of underworld.

I know the devs and everyone else will debate that the auction channel is only a way of advertising similar to the barking droids in coronet and this channel would cut the spam. But if you want to make this world realistic, you need to keep the barking droids spamming. after all, in the real world we find ourselves amid billboards, endless tv commercials, e-mail spam, hawkers on the street, etc.

Look, if every man, woman, and child in the real world had a cellular phone that could broadcast to everyone else in the world, then ok. I'd easily accept the new channel. Anyways. Just thought i would see if anyone feels the same way before i take this argument up to the devs.
