WUKs are Weapon Upgrade Kits. The tool we used to slice weapons before the slicing change. The Devs made it so the old tools "salvaged" into the new tools semi-randomly.
So, if you have a crate of old WUKs (which can't be made any more), you can pull one from the crate and salvage it and have turned into a Simple Toolkit, a Finely Crafted Toolset, or on the extreme occassion...a Delicate Trigger Assembly or Illegal Core Booster. I really can't remember if I was getting armor components from my WUKs or not. I didn't really pay attention.
I do know that we were told we would be using some new Slicing Toolkit that would have many uses to it so that half our inventory space wouldn't be used up on crates and crates of Clamps, AUKs, WUKs, and PLKs. I haven't gotten through half the crates I carried on me pre-slicing change and I've got almost 2 houses full of items that don't stack.
I'd say that this is the pain in the ass I've been feeling, but that's just the raw meat back there from the numerous reamings the Devs have bestowed on this grizzled old Smuggler.

As I understand it: Non Graveyard Krayts (ones around Wayfar), Death Watch Bunker NPCs, Avatar Platform NPCs, high-end Reb/Imp NPCs, and tier 4/5 ships (Black Suns I've heard) in space. Oh and Nightsister Elders and Setinels. Sith Pirate and Shadows drop them as well.
It's been said that Lok Mercenaries do the drop as well but people have done missions for them and found wild spawns for hours and hours on end and not looted anything.
