Thread: Report from TC: Publish 9, Locked Containers & Loot Changes

There are two known loot table changes that are part of Publish 9 that directly effect low level smugglers and prgression through the slicing ranks.

- Force crystal drops are now specific to a short list of NPCs (details are on the jedi forum I'm sure)

- Items related to a new "quest" have been added to drops on all (or most) NPCs

So, what does that mean for people after containers for XP or loot? The net effect of these changes can be seen on Test Center in two ways. While I will not go on record with these as facts, and I cannot say thigns wont be different with the code that goes out live tomorrow, I will say that I have informally polled other folks on the server and it seems like the general consensus:

- On the plus side containers seem to now drop a lot more frequently making getting your own a lot more viable and eventually a general lowering of price of locked containers on the market.

- On the neutral side there are no crystals from containers anymore so theres no big 200k-500k item that you can stumble across. [Bad if they're your containers cause you don't get rich, good if you're opening for others because once the change is accepted by the public there will be less cries of you "stealing" the good loot".]

(results of a few containers opened in next post)

Part 2: Random Locked Container Loot Sample

After making sure anyone looking for slice XP got their share of containers I started opening them myself. In total I have opened 84 containers in the last week or so. The following is a quick breakdown of the loot I have gotten. Again, this is a small (from a data perspective) sample, and I'm not going to attempt to make any formal conclusions based on these numbers.

Containers Total: 84

Items in each:
0: 5
1: 34
2: 32
3: 13

Loot Breakdown:
Containers: 13
Broken "Junk": 9
Data Disks: 4
Clothing: 15
Baseline Weapons: 81
DOT/Moded Weapons: 2
Baseline Wep&Med Components: 5
SEAs: 5

OF NOTE:
- No SEA was above a +2 modifier
- The two DOT weps were junk DOTs (1 & 7 strength, 1% & 3% potency, less then a min duration)
- Don't try and add up and compare the breakdown and the items counts, I probably missed counting a cdef or two in there =)
- Most fun Container Sequence:

Open Container #1 - Find Container #2 and a gun
Open Container #2 - Find Containers #3 & #4 and a gun
Open Container #3 - Find [crappy] Mind Poison Stone Knive
Open Container #4 - Find CDEF

But really, how often have you gotten something good from a locked container? LOL

Best I've gotten has been another locked container with a shirt that had a DE Exp +1 mod in it.

GOOD TO KNOW, thanks!

I hope your suspicions are right because I have been on this slicing thing for about a MONTH know (casual player and all) and it is a double drag. ONce I get to slicing 3 is smooth sailing since I can do a factory run of CDEFs but right now- DAMN!

That's pretty damn good if you ask me.

I have gotten a few crystals on the live servers, but very very rare. I also got some skill tapes and armor plates from them nothing too high but some were for rifle speed/

Best I ever got out of a locked container was another locked container.

Sounds about right, I've gotten 2 or 3 crystals on Bria from containers in my time, and when i was grindng slicing on test center before the pub 9 code hit I had gotten "lucky" and pulled one twin.

I can't really say if the tapes like +6 are gone, or any other good non-crystal loot is gone, my sample just isn't big enough and stuff like that was pretty rare anyway. I think the more important point in terms of loot is the crystal change because that seems to me to be one of the big things customers claim get "stolen" from them.

The bigger change here I think is just the frequency of drops. Both because they drop more frequently (but don't let my high number of containers throw you, I've killed a TON of NPCs the past 2 weeks) and because Meatlumps and many other low end NPCs don't drop crystals anymore so that is a portion of your competition gone and a better chance of spawns not being camped when you get there.

I have 34 locked containers in my house i was saving in case I ever drop smuggler and want to re-acquire.

Even though the odds are low, should I open them all tonight hoping for a crystal??

If you have banked enough slicing experience, you can train up to slicing 2 without slicing a single locked container. You'll lose anything above that, but you don't have to worry about hanging on to locked containers.

Excellent point, chown2.... I hadn't even thought of that!
