Thread: From a Weaponsmith: How do you prefer to work?

I'm a Weaponsmith. I have thousands of weapons that need to be sliced. I hire a Master Smuggler to perform this service for me, but I want to make the experience as painless as possible. I also want to practice a little "risk management" if you know what I mean. Like, giving admin to a PA hall full of crated Krayt guns isn't my ideal scenario. I'm perfectly happy to hang out with the smuggler while she slices, helping keep things organized, etc. So my question to you is...

What is the most efficient andeffective way to bulk slice?

I would say having the crates of weapons ready to give the smuggler, and also a crate of backpacks. I know when I was bulk slicing to grind up smuggler my inventory got real messy. Then the smuggler would hand a pack full of sliced weapons off to you, or place in a structure if you use admin to a building. From there you do what you want with them

I don't care if you're there to babysit me or give me admin rights. The only thing that makes my experience easier is backpacks. Provide enough packpacks to hold the sliced weapons.

It doesn't matter to me if the weapons are crated or not.

Also, I just wanted to add something. If you're going to trust me with all those weapons anyway, why not give me admin rights to make it easy on yourself?

I usually slice from a crate of weapons and drag the sliced items into named bags "Speed" and "Damage" ...

When the bags are full I offer them to the Weaponsmith's vendor and start to fill another.

I get paid in advance so I offer the bags at 1 credit. But the smuggler could charge an ammount per bag equal to the contents x per-slice-fee.

Idealy (and this is assuming you trust the the smuggler wholy) the smugglerwould have avendor where you could offer your created weapons to him to get sliced ... that way nither of your really needs to be logged in at the same time to get the job done.

The catch here is that the smuggler can only have 25 items offered at a time. So hopefully you could buy the bags back ASAP incase he's got other clients he needs to offer things to.

I like this post because it feels kinda underhanded already- A WS comes to the underworld to ask what's the best way to get his product all contrabranded and what not but I couldn't help but have this scenario play out in my head- Like what would it be like if the smuggler couldn't handle his cool in the situation:

WS: Okay, I gotsome backpacks- are you sure you canhandle this- It's a lot to slice.

Smug:Don't worry 'bout it kid. I slice whatever you got- It's what I DO.

WS: Okay, well, let's start with these- It's 200 krayt geos-

Smug: What?

WS: Yeah, (Opens crate of smarkly new guns) I got the best stats I ever have on these to top it off so be CAREFUL.

Smug: Wow. /sweat- These babies are worth a lot of money

WS: Worth a lot more once you put your damage slices on them.

Smug: Yeah... Uh, /swallow let me get started.

Smuggler begins to slice the first gun making sure to be very careful. The first slice is 11% SPEED.

WS: Whoa, man!

Smug: It's okay- I'm just warming up is all-

The next slice 17% SPEED

WS: Duuuuude...

Smug: It's all good man, I'm still IMPROVING the guns- just a lil' nervous. Next one is gonna be better.

15% DAMAGE

WS: Well, at least you got the damage part right-

Smug: Be a lot easier without you breathing down my back.

WS: You sure you don't wanna walk around a little bit first-

Smug: No, I just never had merchandise this valu- Uh, Oh.

WS: What?

Smug: I accidentally used a fan instead of a Molecular Clamp.

WS: A what instead of a WHAT!? What are you saying?

Smug: Well, it's telling me to cut the blue wire but there is a chance- a small chance it might be wrong.

WS: Jebuss!

Smug: I guess I should do what it says-

Silence for a long time.

WS: What happened?

Smug: I think I will take that walk and mix up some pixie to help me focus here a lil' bit.

When I do bulk slicing, the Weaponsmith I'm working with often give me admin rights. Then again, I mainly do such large work for guild. I find whenever I do larger transactions with people, I pay or get paid incrementally to prevent problems on both ends.

Like it was said, crates are usually the best. I prefer these versus bags and containers because items cannot be sliced within the two former. Crates let the slicer take out items at their own pace.

One thing I do, and what you may want your slicer to do if you're planning on keeping track of the items, is I compile all slicing results into an e-mail if I'm doing many pieces (usually a suit of armor or more.) I also make extensive use of /notepad.

Hah... well, I'm no a-hole (unless you ask my competitors), I understand the results are random. I'm not worried about the results of the slice, I'm thinking procedure here.

I noticed when I had my smuggler pull the items out of crate that their name gets associated with the "creator" field on the item description. This is a problem - I spend a lot of time branding and what-not and my rep costs more than my resources.

I'm thinking that involving a backpack and a vendor are great ideas. Keep 'em coming!

How much do you guys charge for a crate of weapons ? Do you charge on the weapon or do you guys have a standerd price or what ? I might be wanting to go into buissness with a WS

Depends on the weapon and the quality of the weapon and stuff like that. If they receive a good slice they are obviously worth more. Mostly, Weaponsmiths who pre-slice their weapons can charge more since they save the customer the hassle of buying multiple items hoping for that perfect slice. I would not pay a smuggler based on the results of a slice, because the results are random. I am in the habit, however, of offering a bonus if luck would favor us with high damage slices.

Hmmm, well, when I sliced comp for Grue I just changed the color of the armor

based on the quality of the slice. In any case, he had already memorized the stats

on each and could tell if it was effect or encumb and if it was a decent slice when he

looked at them.

If I had hadthe time to slice for you (still really sorry, I left a lot of loose ends hanging =/)

I would've done it two ways based on how well you knew your weapons:

a) (you've memorized stats like grue did)...three packs, one labeled <20%, 20%-30%

and >30%.

b) (if unsure of weapon stats)...6 packs, similar to above but 3 labeled speed, the other

3 labeled damage.

Either way, I'd hand the crates to the smuggler (no admin rights) personally. Having

someone else around to talk with about the slices is always nice.
