well... actually, I didn't.

I just got tired of all the "Be Your Own Smuggler" / "I want a black DL44" / blah blah blah blah

Can we debate upcoming CU templates or talk about the promised Smuggler Revamp? You know, they still haven't given us a date for the revamp. Shouldn't we be yelling about that?

Can't we all just get along???

I'm going to be controversial and say that our revamp is of lower priority than the CU right now. I think securing ourselves a role in the CU (as significant anddesirable as a role asthe CU concept docs say)is more important than pushing for the revamp, considering the scope of the changes in the CU.

Once that's out of the way, then we can start yelling.

Iactually disagree.

I've never ever seen Smuggler as a combat profession, and now that we're considered one, I'm slightly disappointed that combat players may well end up mastering Smuggler for it's combat mods, specials and certs.

I still bellieve that the combat professions should stand alone, with us, SL, and CM - the true hybrid professions - having no combat value outside the scope of their roles and/or content.

Call me selfish, but it was bad enough every other pistol PvPer carrying 'Rogue' up. Now we'll have players who don't give a shiat about smuggling or contraband interefering in our world because they wanted 60% RoF armour cert and liked the look of ourmezzer specials. And that saddens me (please note, saddens, rather than angers).

I liked being one of The Few, one of a band of brothers, united by a beleief in a profession that stood for more than skills or bonuses. I liked belonging to a group that had passion.

I see what you mean, but really, even if we remained a weak combat profession, the slicing and smuggling revamps are/were bound to bring in an influx of new smugglers (for thecontent or even justthe novelty)making us no longer "the few" anyway. Look at the BH profession, there's a lot of them about despite the fact that it's currently not much good as a combat profession, just because they get their unique content, just like we will after our revamp (and of course they're iconic, just like us). The professions who are "the few" and have the best communities (like us and the rangers) are few because they're pretty broken, and have good communities because it's only the passionate and"non-leet"players who stick with a profession in that state. That has it's benefits, of course, but I'd rather be non-broken instead.

Personally, I'm happy what what I've seen and heard so far about our CU role (I haven't had time to test it myself though). If combat is to be part and parcel of ourgameplay (like the NPC BH missions on us, and especially if we get PC BH missions), I'm glad that we'll have good combat skills, especially ones useful for hindering an attacker to help with escape/evasion, so that smugglers with no other combat skills have a chance, and that smugglers with other combat skills can be potent without the smuggler profession being just a point sink. Spreading the specials and some of the mods throughout the profession looks like it should help cut down on smuggler dabbling a little.
