Thread: Why Do Smugglers Feel Completely Broken?

Please do not flame me. I love Smugglers.

I'm curious why many Smugglers feel their profession is completely broken? The slicing changes are pretty darn cool. You have combat specials that are pretty darn cool. Your spices are pretty darn cool. I understand that you've been waiting a long time to actually smuggle things, but you're far from broken. Right now you seem better than ever.

Just curious.

I bought this game not to be a drug dealer. I didn't buy it so I could be aweapon enhancer. In PVP combat I've felt totally useless because I get capped and FAST. In fact, I realized that I was hardly using any of the Smuggler abilities and mostly using my BH ones.

I bought this game so I could sneak past some guards with my wook buddy, get in my YT-1300 fly past blockades, get hunted and, occasionally, if I'm very, verylucky, get hunted down and shot to death in the streets because I skimmed and/or failed a mission.

So I spent a month ignoring my life and getting up to the point where I could be a seriously bad mother! Then what? Nothing. Tells with "Hey man. Can you slice my ____?" And my answer now is, "D'you have the loot to let me do it?" To which they almost always reply, "No." Or "Do you sell faction points?" ::sigh:: "No." "But you're a smuggler, right?" "In title, yes."

There's just no point to it for me.

Well, let's see. I'm a Pistoleer. How would I feel if I had some great kung-fu moves with amazing particle effects, could create MacGyver-like gadgets from household objects, had the power to exorcise demons and knew how to cook a really, really great curry, but couldn't use a pistol?

Smugglers don't see their profession as broken (bugs withstanding), but rather entirely miss-represented in game. Their current incarnation is like having doctors fix engines and droids but not people, Or Bounty Hunters craft wanted posters but not be able to hunt marks.

If this is as good as it's going to get in some ways that would be ok (I'm reaching for ways it could be mind you), if the development team had said from the outset something along the lines of, "Smugglers are not going to Smuggle, so we're renaming them Scoundrel"... that didn't happen however and there have been many times when there's been talk of work on Smuggler and talk of the profession actually being able to Smuggle.

It's been said many times by the community that they'd give up none Smuggling skills such as slicing in order to be able to Smuggle, so it's not as if it's an attempt to have the cake and eat it.

Anyway, I hope that answers your question sufficiently.

Ok before some1 begin the flaming:

1- the Slicing: We never asked to slice, we don't want to be slice monkeys.

- the first slice system did not give u to choose between the slice, but at least the change was worthfull and we could craft our own tools

- the new system is completely useless, because: A we have to loot the very rar slice tools in the DWB, avtar or the corvett and we are no fighter and don't want to kill/loot npc to do our basic job. And B the slice change is not worth the tiem and combat we make

- this is not the slice system we was promissed and that we gave feedback for.

2- the combat: before the CU we was the weekest prof. and unntil 3 Weeks after we was pretty strong but now all our special are nerfed.

3- the spiece : it's not like chef and doc buff before the CU and it's not 1/2 alike after the CU. only very few poeple buy it.

4- sell faction point: for 90% of the player it's too expansive to pay at least 100credit/1 faction point. and it's only worth to sell it if u are Colonel

5- we was promised since Beta3 for a revam and we did never get it.

Sorry to stir the hornet's nest. I strive to educate myself about many aspects of the game.

Thanks, Wes. That was what I was looking for.

The slicing changers are NOT cool, its far from what we were told we were getting. Any monkey can play "pick the button to press" there's no skill involved altogether. Add to that the fact that weapons have hard caps which even the slice (which is supposed to go beyond the legal limits) cannot exceed.

Spices are still a joke.

Underworld what?

Content what?

Smuggling what?

Yea, I would say that we are well over 75% completely broken. The only thing that seems to be "working" is the combat part, which shouldn't be such a large role, and everyone who's had to pvp against a smuggler seems to want that part nerfed into oblivion.

Let's see here:

1. Crowd Control 5- Well we were on our way to it but got whacked back to about a 2 at best.

2. Slicing- Unless you're talking about the super high end slices, which most people don't get, being a Master means nothing to slicing. Oh yeah, if it is the super high end slice, the loot component is more important than the Smuggler fetching millions while Smugglers get squat.

3. Spice- Maybe the only of worth to us.

4. Smuggling- SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE TO EXPLAIN THIS ONE!!!

So I guess I'd have to say yes, we're pretty f-ed up.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Because a smuggler by definition is someone who smuggles. Do you see any smuggling?

Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie, Two years of "Soon"(TM), a harsh bunch of lies.
Ask me a riddle and I reply: "Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie"

Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie, Dancers can't smuggle and neither can I.
Ask me a riddle and I reply: "Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie."

Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie, Why are there Jedi, I don't know why.
Ask me a riddle and I reply: "Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie."

Yes, we are like fingers that cannot fing.
Which pretty much qualifys us as completely broken.
