Doesn't it seem just a bit odd that doctor buffs literally triple (or more) one's ability to absorb damage, turning them into a virtual superman, for 3+ hours, yet have absolutely *no* negative side effects? Does it make any sense? How is it that doctors are "buffing"anyway? Through the use of heavy stimulants (i.e, drugs) wouldn't you think? So there you've got docs, sitting in starports, literally shooting people up with drugs equivalant to PCP and amphetamines, no prescription or diagnosis, just a quick 12k please, yet no storm trooperever bats an eye. Meanwhile, you've got spices, which are apparently markedly inferior to the drugs that doctors have access too,and are for some reason illegal? Why would smugglers even bother with crap that lasts ten minutes, has a quarter of the power of what the docs are using, and leaves you puking and practically defenseless as soon as it wears off? Man, smugglers must be *really* stupid (or at least the devs seems to think so), otherwise they'd forget the neutron pixie and muon and go after whatever the docs are pushing.
Somehow it feels like they're stuffing a bit of politics in our face (drugs=bad, unless administered by a doctor).
IMO, it should be the other way around. The spices should be jacking people up to superhuman proportions for ten minutes at a time, while the doc buffs should be a muchmore mild enhancement lasting a couple of hours.
Of course, I recognize that doc buffs were just a quick, poorly thought out fix to the problem of armor and etc., but really,it makes no damn sense.

Actually it seems to me that doc buffs are like steroids. Which makes things just like real life. If you're a hero (i.e. sports star) you can get a doctor to "pump you up" for a price. This may be currently under review but has been the de facto standard for a long time. What they should do is make it like real life in the game. If you use buffs, eventually (and the more you use them the greater the decline) your stat points start going down permanently.
My .02 creds.
