I was just thinking back on becoming a smuggler a long time ago. We used to have to slice a number of containers to get ourselves up the slicing tree. Now the containers are next to useless.
So here was my thought. What is containers were to have a much higher rate of droping one of these slicing loot items.
Lets face it, someone should have taken great effort to lock something important into these containers. So instead of getting a piece of clothing, or a CDEF pistol, we could usually expect to get one or more slice loot drops out of a container. This would finally give value to the containers again while still keeping them a smuggler centeric item (since a smuggler would still be needed to open then).
(sorry if this idea has been thrown around before)

Its a good idea.
But that fact alone will cause it to be ignored. You know that right?

It's a better idea than having them drop from critters.
Should be easy to code, too. When you slice open a container, it has a certain percentage chance to contain slicing components, with more of a chance to have the lower-level ones.
Add that, and the ability to stack components, and there would be significantly less whining.

Guess what, I bought an unsliced container just yesterday on a vendor, ifonly for sentimental reasons.
And yes, there was a CDEF carbine in it.

What about the owners of the containers who are adament that any slicing components found in the container they give you must be handed over, so they can sell it for 1 million credits on the bazaar. Increase the loot drops in the containers now... make them have a higher percent of acquiring good stuff. Seeing as there is no reason why smugglers grind by slicing them, there should be a positive advantage of opening them now... Just my opinion.

You could always do the "Darn, it was empty! Better luck next time, buddy" trick.

What I used to love is when you would open a container...and find a container....and then another......
I got 5 in a row once.....then tried to put them back inside each other to find they would no longer fit.

Yeah, or carry a dozen cdef pistols and replace the contents with them, lol...
but people have to trust their smuggler... if they see a crafted pistol in there... good bye reputation.

That's why you should always carry a stachel full of crap loot items.

Reminds me of the Star Map quest with Han Solo... that scoundrel is always two steps ahead of everybody.
