Hey guys,

I've been playing as a Ranger roughly since launch and have decided it is time for a change. Smuggler is one of the other professions that has always appealed to me so it is one that I am seriously considering. I am currently working up the Pistoleer tree which would complement the profession well but I still have a few questions.

Do you recommend being a Smuggler? I know you guys are getting a revamp in the relatively near future so I want to know what is good and bad about your profession and what you expect it to be after the revamp.

Well, for starters, I'd say check out the state of the profession document, located in the 'Important Links' sticky.

That will give you a good idea of where we are with alot of things.

As for after the revamp? Hopefully we're going to be absolutely, without a doubt, totally awesome...

But we have no proof of that, or any idea if that is what will happen. The developers asked us to create a community document, relating to them what we want from our revamp. These are stickied at the top of the forum as well and are works in progress.

Do I recommend picking up smuggler? Always, but I will also be the first to admit that unless you love the thought of being a smuggler, you will find yourself more viable in the game taking up a different profession. We make good money with some of our skills and we have a few skills to help us fight, but we really don't have that great a niche, as the one thing you would expect us to do...smuggle... isn't in existence yet.

Caylin summed it all up.

As of right now, I'd recommend against becoming a Smuggler unless you're willing to stick for the long run. Because at this moment in time, we're good for nothing except slicing. That's all we are right now... slicers with a few extra pistol specials (which aren't that bad). You can sell faction too... it's a good way to make a buck.

I dunno what to expect from the revamp. It could be great (player smuggling, great spices, unarmed moves, criminal faction, slicing improvement) or it could be nothing but a few new spices and improvement to slices. Dunno yet really.

Anyways... if you're in it for roleplaying or if just the thought of being a Smuggler appeals to you... then go for it. That's the reason why I became one. The thought of being the "scum of the galaxy" appeals to me

I'm a smuggler because I like RPing a smuggler. I make the bulk of my money the old fashion way; selling hides and such!

Simply put, I'm a smuggler because I enjoy it. It seems as if these folks have been waiting for a revamp since release and there are no clear indications that the proposed revamp will be done when it's stated to be done. What little that we saw about our last proposed revamp clearly indicated that all the documents produced by the members of these forums has fallen on deaf ears. So it also stands to reason, that the current documents will suffer the same fate. Smugglers will receive an update at some point, but I suspect it will be considerably less than their expectations.

Play a smuggler if that's what you want to do, if you want an uber 'toon' there are more viable professions to choose from.
