Thread: The trials and tribulations of becoming Master Smuggler

Hi guys,

Many of you may recognize me, many of you might not. I started playing SWG the first week of August last year, and from the beginning, I decided to go smuggler. I quickly began posting ideas and comments on our smugglers' forums in order to educate myself as well as to hopefully help make our profession better.

As a newb to the MMORPG market, I found SWG to be extremely fun. Unfortunately, concepts such as grinding, ninja-looting, and griefing were relatively new to me. So, as I began my quest for mastershood in smuggler, I quickly ran into the brick wall, commonly referred to as Unarmed I - IV. By the time, I finished unarmed IV and attained novice smuggler, I found myself knee deep in guild activities. However, in spite of this, grinding the spice tree was relatively easy. Afterwards, I started working on slicing. Now my guild responsibilities were growing, plus I was spending more time organizing my character's place of residence, plus I was still hunting with friends (And getting no xp cause they were all uber). Once, slicing was finished (in November), I started going for my pistol XP. Again, as a relative noob to grinding, I was unaware of the power of doctor buffs (plus there was a lot less master docs back then too), so pistol XP was moving at a snails pace for me. That fact, plus the fact that I wasvirtually useless in any combat situation, led me to postpone my drive towards master and pick up weaponsmith. I mastered weaponsmith within a month and enjoyed it but still found myself lacking the motivation to continue grinding, and since smuggler is what I really wanted to do I still wasn't enjoying myself as I thought I should.

So at the beginning of February..........

I cancelled my account.

Well, two weeks ago, I re-opened my account to find, IMO, many new changes. Good ones, I thought. After a well-deserved and much needed break from the game, I came back with a renewed sense of motivation to master smuggler. Thanks to many of the informative posts you folks have given us, I was able to take peoples advice and ground out the DF and underworld line relatively painlesslyin just under two weeks.

That being said.....

I have finally achieved MASTER SMUGGLER.

It's been a long wait, but I'm not hologrinding, and smuggler has been my choice of profession since day one. I am very happy that I finally achieved my goal.

Thanks, to everyone here for their ideas, their advice, and their camraderie for making our profession one of the best communities that SWG has to offer.

P.S. Doc buffs, Valerian Brandy, and Savage Quenker missions make a wonderful diet for smuggler pistol XP. Using my home-made DX2 I was averaging around 20,000 XP per mission

Gratz!

Oh, and welcome back.

A question regarding cancelling/reactivating accounts. When you cancel, is anything actually deleted? For isntance, when you came back, was the chacracter name available or was the original character still waiting around?

I'm debating cancelling for a bit after hearing how long they estimateuntil Patch 11 hits and I'm curious as I'd hate to have to get a new name, and redo the Master grind.

Good on you though

To clarify the above response....

I cancelled the first week of February and reopened my account mid-May.

- Logging in under the same username and password allowed me to keep my original character.

- All the items in my personal inventory were still there.

- The bank where I opened my safe deposit box remained the same.

- All items in my safe deposit box were still there.

- As expected, my house and all of its contents were long gone.

- My guild affiliation had been removed

- Since my house was gone, I had also lost all city permissions which had been granted to me and had to have them reinstated

They have stated that everything would remain on your character unless they had to start erasing to gain more server space. From what I have gathered from other posts is that they have not erased any characters so far.

Good to know. It may be time for a break. I'm losing/lost that desire to do anything aside from sit and stare at waving grasslands. Might be time to wander into the marshlands of Rori and become a hermit for a few months.

They do however say that your character will be saved for at least three months, however any longer and they cannot promise anything.

Congrats.

On cancelling accounts, I wouldn't do it if you weren't willing to risk it. I know the devs said that characters would be kept for at least a few months (don't remember exact number), but i wouldn't bet my character on that.

Not 3 months, its 6 months, anything past that, its possible to get erased, and so far, SOE has not done a system wide purgeto removeinactive accounts that are over 6 months.
