Thread: Speed slice necessary?

I am a master weaponsmith and I just got master smuggler. I sell all of my weapons I make sliced. I have been doing some research and it seems that once someone reaches the speed cap of their profession, weapon speed doesnt matter. I have been pricing any damage sliced weapons higher than speed sliced. So correct me if I'm wrong, but the only people that would benefit from a better speed are those who have not reached a speed of 100 with their profession?

Only 2 professions naturally meet speed cap, only a select few more are close to reaching it (within 10 pts)

The rest are kinda screwed... I used speed weapons for the longest time... then I got speedcap and havent since. But it sure as hell took me FOREVER to make up the decision to put forth the effort to speed cap.

I would say speed caps are useless for elite weapons, like the DE-10 or similar. For example, weapons that, once you are able to ise them, speed is not an issue. They are great however for low level weapons to help grind a particular profession.

Great example: TK

At novie, pick up a speed sliced VK. At master, grab a dmg sliced VK.

Selusa is dead on. Many people really like the "big bang" but honestly, there is a place for speed. That of course has nothing to do with demand but...

You are correct that those that have not reached +100 might benefit but you may not need to get that high. I believe +94 gets you at the cap with a 4.0 pistol and that is similar for other professions. The professions that seem to be the slowest are pikeman, smuggler, pistoleer, and swordsman. Although some of those can still benefit from speed (like swordsman), if you get a good slice on a powerhammer, you may very well end up doing much much better than you would if you got a good speed slice.

There are many players that will benefit from more speed but more players enjoy high damage. You never hear someone say "I dished out 25,000 pts of damage in 10 seconds." Instead, they like to say "I was hitting for 2500." As long as that's the case, pricing damage a bit higher than speed makes good business sense.

This is Rem's SWG Damage Calculator. It will give you a good idea of the limitations and capabilities players have. The DPS numbers may surprise you.

My DE-10 was dmg sliced. It's spd is 3.5, which is about average for DE-10s. Some I've heard of even go into the 4's. As a Master Pistoleer/Master Smuggler/TKM I'd need a spd mod of 94 to fire lastDitch at the 1sec cap with that DE-10. Master Pistoleer gives you a mod of 74 for spd. You don't get any spd mods in smuggler, and obviously no pistol mods in TK.

There are 5 points worth of spd for master Marksman, and tons in the pistols line of BH. But without those, pistoleers LOVE spd slices.

As another poster stated, carbineers like them too. Most MBHs will take up a lot of pistoleer because of the defenses and ability to wield the geo blaster. That means that if they pick up some Carb as well, they can't get it all. So spd on a carbine could be good for a BH as well (my roommate's dilemma).

Rifleman gets 90 at Master, so they're only a few points away from capping.

TK naturally MORE than caps.

Fencer gets 90 as well I believe at master, so they're close enough to not want spd slices

Swords and Pike and Commando all enjoy spd slices. (as well as pistoleer and carbinier, as already mentioned)

Carbineer will DEFINATLY like speed slices better than damage slices unless they also have bh carbines or master marksman and +25 in tapes, we get a pathetic +60 speed at master, to speed cap we need a 1.2 speed weapon at master. So if there are alot of pure carbineers on your server, then yes speed sliced carbines are good.

The same thing goes for swordsman to a lesser extent, a pure master swordsman with no speed enhancements will have a greater dps with a 3.7 speed hammer than one with 620 max. Once they get tapes the 620 bypasses the 3.7 speed after 10-15 points.

+100 is not a hard speed cap, check the carbineer faq (maybe other combat forums faq, theres definatly one on carbineerI know that), for the speed formula and the dps formula, (also there is a web based dps calculator not sure about the link).

Speed slices are generally NOT as sought after as a damage slice though, but there are a few cases when speed slices are better for some people, even if they dont realize it.
