Hello,

I currently have a droid engineer. I enjoy making droids, however, i'm not getting everything I want as a droid engineer/tk (working on tkm). I think that smuggler may be up my alley and I was wondering if the smuggler out there could let me know a little about the profession. One of the primary things I like about the profession is that you can be a crafter (spice, etc) and a fully functional combat character.

I am planning on going TKM/Smuggler. Is this a good template? I don't do PvP really but i'm looking to be strong enough to enter some of the more dangerous areas of the galaxy (krayt graveyard, Necrosis' dungeon, corellian corvette, etc). What kind of attacks do smugglers have?

I saw it mentioned that the quality of the ingredients that are used to make spice are not important. Can anyone elaborate? What kind of specialized resources are required? (if any).

I don't necessarily need to make a fortune selling spice but i'd like a fairly steady business to keep me off the streets. In general what kind of income potential is there for smugglers?

Part of the reason for my profession change is I want to be able to craft something useful to my Jedi character. I had considered Bio-engineer and tailor or chef but these templates leave me combat free and there are quests and what not that I would like to do. How does spice hold up to foods? (even though i'm almost fully templated as a Jedi I really haven't experimented with much foods. Pre CU I kept a supply of vasarian brandy and I had a crate of neutron pixies but I never really paid attention to their effects).

Finally, another reason for looking into smuggler is that I would like to be a self sufficient crafter. I don't really want to go vendor hopping for this component or that component. When it comes to smuggling, how independant are you?

Thank you for any answers and information.

If you want to be a good self-sufficent TKM, then you'll want at least 0030 swordsman and some doc. That really doesn't leave much room for smuggler. Yes, it can be done, as I used to be TKM smuggler... but honestly you're better off being the cookie cutter TKM / doc / swords unless you really want to be a smuggler.

As far as smugglers being self-sufficient... I had to take up BH to supply myself with slicing tools. Hope that clears that one up for you.

As far as spices and foods... use both for best results. Booster Blue if you tend to use a lot of mind, Neutron Pixie if you don't. Dirt cheap to make, but at the same time it's not as popular as chef foods so you won't make a lot of money off of it.

I thought the NGE couldn't be any worse than the CU, but I was wrong.

Hmm... would I be able to stick to my intended template and use smuggler attacks? The whole idea is to go for a combat/crafter profession as I want aspects of both

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the Smuggler combat attacks don't work with melee weapons.

Considering one of the few things that Smugglers have going for them is things like Concussion Shot, it seems like an awful waste of SP if you want a combat aspect to your toon which is primarily melee.

Spice is good in its place, but you'll not get rich off it in my experience. The only way I ever made money was in Faction Point sales and you need to be Colonel to really make that work. Plus there is the problem of pilots grinding FP in space and selling it at a fraction of the cost that a Smuggler has to to break even.

If you're TK first then I'd probably agree that Smuggler isn't your best bet to put SP into. Crafting isn't as large a part as it was since the Slicing 'revamp' and we're not as self-sufficient in that area any more.

You'll probably find that most people here picked Smuggler first and then looked for things that worked well with that, rather than vice versa. Post CU I was the very popular MBH, MS with a little Pistoleer, but recently I've turned to focus on space, and am Master Shipwright, Master Smuggler, a little Pistoleer.

Hope that helps.

I've been master fencer/master smuggler for a while now (not too different than what your looking at) and the combination just doesn't work all that well. Smuggler attacks don't work with melee weapons, and you end up just not being all that great at either. Because of that, I am now in the process of regrinding to M Carbs/M Smuggler with some medic tossed in.

As for money, I do make a fair amount slicing, but most of mine comes from buying stuff for "cheap" (a relative term) and selling it for more, either by hawking it or (more recently) on the trade forums. I have to say that when I need seed money, it's usually posible for me to slice a million in profit in about 4-6 hours...which is what I do when I start running low on cash. Spice, while incredibly cheap and easy to make, just doesn't have high enough profit margins (and I am limited to selling on the bazaar as I have no vendor.)

I started grinding TKM/0034Swords/0004Fencer/4004Doc yesterday. Not really a tank template, but somewhat self-sufficent (or at least I don't have to be a bother to my groupmates).

Master Smuggler/Master pistoleer/4000 CM isnt too bad, My alt is MBH/Master smuggler/Novice Rifleman, I rely on Ruby bliel and Stim D's for the healing, great money maker with the BH missions and all and being able to loot your own components and such.
