Quick quesition about something I did not find in the FAQ. I am CL1 toon and need to get fp so that I can make some factional armor. Do I have to have any standing or rank with a faction in order to buy fp from a smuggler? In other words, do I have to drop my neutral pilot status and switch to reb/imp pilot to grind out some fp to get a rank before I can actually purchase fp? Thanks for the help!

When you do not belong to a ground faction (rebel/imperial) you can only carry very little Faction points, probably not enough to buy schematics (and I think you have to join a faction to buy those, I'm not sure though).
But If you join a faction on the ground you can stay whatever pilot you are, space and ground are not connected in any way. So being a Neutral Pilot but a rebel colonel is possible.
Edit: Fixed typo.

Ok, but can i but fp without having any rank on the ground? If i haven't joined with the rebs, can i buy reb fp, or do i have to have some kind of rank first?

If you mean if you can buy rebel faction from a smuggler when you are still neutral that is a yes. But you cannot carry much till you become a member of the rebel alliance.

The Faction FAQ has the ranks and the amount of faction you can hold at that rank.
According to that table, the max a neutral/private can hold is 1,000.
Whether that's enough to buy any armor, I have no idea but you would want to buy it on a planet that the faction you want to buy from is winning on. The bigger the % lead, the better the deal.
I would bet that you have to join up to actually buy anything from a recruiter, but I can't remember, it's been a long time.
I've also never seen armor on the list of things to buy. I went SF one day to see how much it was but maybe I missed it.
Do you have to be an AS to get the option?
-Edit-
Who do you want to buy from?
Anyone can buy from a Smuggler.
Anyone who has Smuggler 4xxx can buy from a recruiter/officer.
Regardless, if you have not joined up with a faction, you should only be able to hold 1,000fp.
And as I said, you may or may not be able to buy schems if you have not joined a faction.

Ok, thanks everyone, that answered my question. Yes, you have to be an armorsmith to buy armor. I think that a full set of schems costs about 16k fp, so I need to be at least a corporal I believe. I'm just going to get Captain, because it's a cool rank to put with a pilot
Thanks again!

Not to discourage you or ruin someones sale, but you realize that it's going to cost you about 4.5 Mil to get to Captain, and if a full suit costs 16k, assuming a cost of 100cr/fp, right?
Support ATK play, buy from a Smuggler, not some crappy AFK grinder.

I know that on Naritus Server...I helped a Master AS to get to Colonel so that he could have a butt load of faction so that he could buy the schematics and with me helping him he has added a note on his vendor that when ppl go to Bio-link there armor too look me up.
It takes about 8k faaction to bio-link armor...so help out a smuggler on your server and try to give him some customers. ![]()
