Thread: slicing chances

I often wonder whether the slicing effect is quite as random as the devs would have us believe.

I know we cant choose to target dmg or spd but I've long held the belief that the smuggler's tendency to achieve either a spd or dmg slice is affected by the base stats of the weapon being sliced. I think this is also designed to prevent us flooding the market with too many high end weapons. Let me explain what I mean.

A while ago I sliced a couple of krayt scatter pistols for a WS friend. Result? 31% spd and 35% spd. Nice slices, but useless for a MBH user that would already be speed-capped but who would REALLY kill for a nice damage slice. After this I started keeping track of slice results - I have sliced a good number of krayt crafted weapons and never EVER had a dmg sliced. Ever.

There comes a point where the likelihood of this being a coincidence simply gets overtaken by the reality that there is a hidden nerf going on here.

Ah, conspiracies in every corner!

I had a Krayt Scatter Pistol sliced today, 30% dmg

out of 4 scatters, I got 30% dmg, 22% speed, 30% speed and 31% dmg
the first one was Krayt

your theory, while interesting, doesn't explain the 50/50 repartition on standard weapons, with gaussian distribution of the numeric results.

To give an example, if you slice 4 crates of VK, you'll probably have 50 speed and 50 damage, all averaged on 25%, whatever the base stats were., and the more quantity the closer you'll get to 50/50 average 25

I feel the solution is to not let a smuggler choose until he is a master. Then get the master bonus and choose what needs sliced...maybe to keep things in line....if you want to choose you can take an 8% lowering from max stats THEN role in there..

example: Joe brings me a T21. Joe wants a dmg slice. Max dmg is usually 35% but since he specifically wants it, max is now 27% but he is guaranteed damage. Joe could also take teh chance and gamble and just do the old school random style and hope for a 35% dmg but Joe could also get a speed slice that way.

Umm....good question.

It's because "we can't". The Devs decided to make it 100% completely random. It's just the way it is.

The only possible explainations for this are:

1.) Since there are no consequences for getting caught with illegal items, being able to pick the slice puts weapons/armor out of balance. You'd have uber weapons with no risk or consequences.

2.) Devs didn't forsee the future circumstances of their actions

Instead of an 8% reduction, how about just getting the Slicing 4 level if you choose type of enhancement?

How about just making tool quality matter...would make those pretty experimention points we get with slcing stuff worth using.

Say1-25%can get a10-15% slice

26-50%can get a 15-25% slice

51-75%can get a25-30% slice (25-35slicing armor)

76-100% can get a 30-35% slice (35-45 slicing armor)

as well as maybe having a slicing mod

each level of the slicing tree giving more

more slicing mod gives less of a chance to slice outside the given range of your tools

Once a smuggler...always a smuggler...yes..even if you don't get to smuggle...
