Thread: DF specials question

Couldn't find this in the FAQ so I'm going to ask. Have been reading through the chuckle for the smuggler thread and heard all the funny stories about using panic shot and low blow and all that to take someone out and then I get to a post from march with a link to a thread where someone was complaining about smugglers using FD so they wouldn't die. In that thread one of you guys mentions something about 3 of the 4 DF specials getting nerfed in the next publish (was publish 3 or 4 I think). By now you can guess what I'm asking, what got nerfed or did it and so what's the deal with what are the best specials to use now?

Thanks

that's really easy; look, what got nerfed? everything, what hasn't? nothing!

Ok, just kidding, let me try to explain

A long time ago, in a far far away galaxy, Feign Death used to break combat in PVE, so you had to put a DOT on your target, feign, wait for the DOT to disappear, rinse and repeat. That was pretty convenient, but pretty exploited too, imagine this small bothan with no buffs (at those ancient ages, buffs were unknown) go and take down krayt dragons, giant kinogilas and so on... ok, that took long, very long, like an afternoon to pull down the big krayt, but that used to work, and of course that was not intended to do that. So it got nerfed (and we got buffs and melee professions became the wonderful soloists, but that's not the question).

Back in those ancient ages, when you used to shoot a Panic Shot, the delay didn't break if another bolt was fired. This allowed very nice combinations with Low Blow :

/lowblow (opponent Kded)

/panicshot (opponent delayed 10 seconds, so can't stand up, and with defenses down)

/lastditch

/lastditch

/lastditch

/lastditch

/t %TT i pwned you

/deathblow

To avoid the Smuggler to be too powerful they imagined that stupid idea to break the delay as soon as the target is hit again, making Panic Shot useless. They never thought that to obtain this result you had to be master pistoleer too, because for a Smuggler to land his shots, even on an immobile target, it's something like once in every month.

In those ancient ages your dirty fighting skills were some skills that allowed you to fight, or at least pretend to, at the moment your dirty fighting skills are very nasty if you're a desperado or a master pistoleer (or both).

I think that's all about it, i wish there could be an happy end in this story, but the end is being written at the moment by the sandbox team, aka Team Low Blow.

Hmmm, not a master pistoleer and with the need for 24 sp's for FS skills, I won't have enough to be either since I already have TKM and am planning master smuggler. I have been trying to figure out the best spread for sp's in pistoleer though. It would be nice to actually win a PvP for once, not that I usually do much of it. Usually it happens like this (real example, happened the other day)........me unbuffed driving around on swoop on Tat looking for ship parts, drive by squad of npc ST's, get popped, continue on to vendor which is out of range of ST's find garbage and then proceed to try to find a friend that is actually on to bring me something to put my load of stuff in so he can kill me and I clone back in Bestine. While this happens, red dot comes running up which just happens to be overt Imp wookie brawler type with full buffs. I see it coming and burst run out of there and the guy chases me on foot for 10 minutes before catching me and killing me. Lol guess he really wanted the satisfaction of killing an unarmored unbuffed rebel who was just trying to find a few parts and go shoot some pirates in space.....I'm a privateer in JTL.

I actually used feign death a bunch of times when fighting an acklay in the geo caves. My friend and I had gotten it to 3/4th health when my friend died, so I quickly feigned. I managed to kill the Acklay by spamming health shot 2 and then feigning before I died. Took a while but was well worth it.
