Hi all,

I just started playing SWG 4 days ago. I bought the total exp package. I've been reading a lot on the forums to try to figure out how to do things and understand the game better. I decided I wanted to be a smuggler after reading about the prof. so I spent most of my time so far working on it. One thing doesn't make sense to me though. I bought a strategy guide for the game which says that the smuggler earns slicing xp etc. to progress in those skill trees. However on my in game skill trees it looks as though all the xp is pistol and combat xp. This doesn't make sense. I became a smuggler because i wanted to do the other things like slicing etc. If allI had wanted to do what shoot things I guess I would have became a pistoleer. Did the xp get changed with the combat upgrade.Seems disappointing to me, I had wanted to role play a character not just mindlessly shoot stuff.

The xp did change with the CU and welcom to the wonderful world of "smuggling".

The smuggler profession has not changed at all with the CU. The smuggler tree always included some fighting skills, it's not just a crafting profession. If you want to avoid combat totally I suggest getting the slicin' tree and maybe weaponsmith or armorsmith to compliment it... you can make really nice money on that, also no fighting involved And about the smuggler profession... well it's not perfect but there's a revamp somewhere ahead... a couple of months more of waiting maybe?

Edit: Bloody typos.

thanks for the input. I don't want to totallly avoid fighting it's just that all 4 skills trees to reach master smuggler involve earning pistol xp and combat xp. If the smuggler is not strictly a "fighting" profession why is that the only xp you have to earn to get master smuggler? I'm not gonna switch my character I just wanted to earn xp for slicing and other smuggler stuff as well. for instance the scout can earn scouting xp a number of ways. Harvesting, fishing, camping etc. just my thoughts.

We used to have slicing and spice crafting xp for their respective trees.

Why did they change that anyway? I really enjoyed the spice and slice grind when I did it before. It was a great break from combat grinding. They've dumbed this game down way to much =/

The guide book you bought is outdated, most changed with the CU.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed spice and slice grinding, too... I'm glad I mastered before the CU. Now it's just a pistol grind. /shrug Every prof has a grind... we were just lucky enough to have some variability in our grind... you know, until the CU.

acousticjaznite,
Smugglers are cooler then pistoleers it just goes with out saying.

I do understand your point but keep in mind with smuggler you get some nice crowd control shots (which you will need)and you can master another combat profession if you want to be a bad arse or a crafting/entertainment profession if ya wanna be "an old smoothy". Good luck in your grind, if your on Eclipse look me up and I will help ya anyway I can

thanks guys for the offer of help. I'm on Ahazi though, if there's any smugglers out there on Ahazi i'd love you meet you. I've been on everyday since I got the game (slightely addicted

I hope that they reinstate the other ways of getting xp for the smuggler. One of the things i like about SWG is the multiple ways to earn xp not just buy killin' stuff, although thats fun too.

Welcome aboard, as far as the Smuggler + Weaponsmith build I can tell ya i loved it for a good while.

Smuggler gave me enough combat skill to go hunting up the materials myself and take out some baddies if they were crowding a good material spot.

and of course the slicing made my product sell well. Only reason i stopped was a certain point more credits is no longer enough of a goal..gee tough life huh

Smuggler+anything works well even in our various states or disrepair throughout the years.

I tried my hand at the crafting professions before trying the professions that I really wanted to play, and was going to drop Smuggler after mastering but it's too fun. I agree, I liked the three different types of experience that used to be needed, and I didn't wantt to do the Unarmed tree, but I understood why it was necessary. I didn't /respec and have been enjoying also doing BH missions; something about being on the grey side of the law appeals to me ingame. And when slicing is fixed, I'll have a good time with that too.

Welcome to the world of the Smuggler. Good luck, and
