Thread: The Bazaar changes....

Yes I know that there was another thread about this but it got hijacked.

Now, I think that the new bazaar changes is the worst idea the devs have ever come up with. Now, let me explain why I think this.

1st It will kill merchants. What will be the point of some of thier driods? How will they get the needed Merchant exp by access fees, and such? If I can Land at the C-net starport and purchase something from a vendor on Freakin Endor....not only is that UNrealistic, but its ..just plain dumb. Convienient yes, but dumb.

2nd, It will kill businesses. Why will people pay extra credits to one vendor when they can get it for less at another? they dont like it.But thats it the whole You have to shop around" attitude youmust have to save. In Real life, businesses use the same idea. If a city had only ONE retail store that sold lamps in a 30 mile radius, they could setthier price to whatever they choose. They could rip you off, or keep thier prices low. But what if there was another retail store that sold lamps 30 miles away, and they were prices just a bit cheaper? Would you spend the time. and fuel to get there? or would you place your order at the store you were at, to the store that had them cheaper, AND have the store you bought them from deliver you your lamps? That is the problem. You would drive to the nearest store and purchase the cheaper lamps from the cheaper store, BUT doing so from the clerk at the expensive store. .......teh? it just doesnt make sense. What will happen is that the store with the more expensive product will loose business, and will have to drop its prices to compete. Then the OTHER other would do the same.....until the prices were so low that no one would win and one of (if not both)those stores would go under.

3rd It will KILL our spicing business. No matter if you agree with it or not, we can sell spices and slices On the bazaars & vendors. Now that we have that outa the way and onto another thread..... It will kill the whole "smuggling spices into a city" idea. The problem I see, and fear the most is this. Spice doesnt sell for much anyway. but it does bring in a bit of income. BUT the only places it brings in income is if your "target" the populated areas. If ther eis no spice on the bazaar or vendors near you, you can sell spice easily, and If there is spice from another smuggler...well you have a bit of competition. But we are talking 100s of credits here...not thousands or tens-of-thousands, So If I sold a dose of Muon for 500$ at a hvy populated but light spiced area...My spice sales would go to thea vendorina basement, that sold a dose of muon for 150-200credits. And it would end up being a MAJOR spice war, of who could keep thier spices at the top of the vendor list. It will Kill spice sales, and we will be slice monkeys.....100% slice monkeys, if we want to make any credits...and "smuggle". How the hell is selling spices "smuggling" when you can sell them from your basement to a guy across the galaxy?

All in all, this whole bazaar thing/idea will create animosity and downright agrivation for many many many people. Anyone who has a vendor, or sells any product will be affected by this. They will be agrivated by the price fluctuation so badly , that I KNOW that many many people will just pack up and leave the game out of frustration.

If you want your opinions read by someone who matters, use the thread that is going to be read by them.

But anyhow, you're wrong.

While this idea has a few negatives, I think one of the goals the devs are out to accomplish is the cutting down of non-play time in game.

Spending hours (literally HOURS) looking through empty vendors that are often mislabled is NOT fun time- it SUCKS and in the end that is the main thing they are trying to avoid.

It's a good compromise to be able to purchase something on Endor from Corellia and then having to pick it up and not THAT unrealistic- hell, I bought things from other countries and had them in my hand the next morning.

This way, maybe you will get some adventuring time in as you journey to get your stuff.

As far as the economic concerns- I'm willing to let it play out. People will pay for stuff that is good.

Your spice will have the same likelyhood of anyone else as being bought, long as you are offering the market price for it.

I wasn't worried about this as a smuggler. The spice market's been dead since roughly September '03, and any vital signs it had left were eliminated with the chef revamp and the emergence of buffs. I've got high hopes for our revamp setting things straight, however.

I was somewhat worried about it as a shipwright, though I was counting on my kingly gear to continue to guarantee me some sales, but most other crafting professions.. well, I didn't hold high hopes for them. Undercutting isn't a huge worry on the high-end gear, as anyone who produces top-notch stuff knows just how much time and money goes into their creations and thus isn't liable to start dropping prices like a sinking stone, but it was still going to end up draining away the profits from such a business--and for those who make all right stuff, or things that don't require rare/high quality resources, well I was guessing they were pretty much all doomed.

I'm glad to see these changes have been pulled from TC. As they currently stood, it would have mauled the crafting professions. But there has to be a way to let buyers know where they can actually get what they need without turning the crafting game into a total trade war where price is 90% of what determines who gets the sales. There has to be a way to satisfy both sides.

I already weighed in on this but I'll restate it here as well...

1. I don't like shopping any more than the next person but this is going to kill crafting professions and take away even more reason to travel around the various planets. I am NOT for it.

2. I dont think ANY contraband should appear on the bazaar anyway. I'm all for taking spice and slicing tools OFF bazaars and making Smugglers sell them in person. One WOULD think that the public bazaars in major cities would be policed and contraband confiscated. What we have right now is as silly as criminals hawking their illegal services in the face of Corsec, RSF and Imperial law enforcement.

Smuggler sell spice??

Wow

Only time I ever craft spice is just before I set out on a mission, when I ask if anyone needsany. Sometimes people ask me "What is spice? What does it do?"

While no one would argue that traveling to empty vendors isn't a great deal of fun, this change deals a serious blow to ALL vendors -- good or bad. Imagine this: Rotten crafter throws 3-4 really cheap items on their empty vendor every other day. Great crafter works hard to keep their vendor well stocked. Global search returs similar items on the two vendors, people buy the cheap stuff and reward the rotten vendor.

There are many things that are annoying in this game: someone typoing a waypoint and driving out to the middle of nowhere, killing something big and getting rotten loot, talking to an idiot who thinks 5k is too expensive for a slice, etc. I guess I'm not as easily annoyed. Maybe what you should do is publicize the empty vendors so their owners go out of business.

Now... I'm going to verify that my vendor is still stocked.

I don't like the idea of instant delivery. That would cut into my profits.

However I am in favor of a galaxy wide listing of stocked items.

Cost is secondary to Doyuo have what I want to prevent me from wqasting my time chasing around for nmothing.

Example:

I needed a merchant tent.

I posted this on Flurry's forum.

I got 2 responses

1 with suggestions I talk to a couple people

The second stated that the poster had 5 tents to sell but no vedior location in the post. (< this is where I became brain dead)

Being the rther "smart" personI am Istarted goin g to the WPs listed in the poster's sig line.

After visiting 3 planets and 4 of the vendors shops listed I still did not have my tent. I did however find 12 empty vendors.

There was at least one enmptry vendor in eachof the shops listed.

I even used a vendor WP from the map and found 8 additional empty vendors in one shop.

I sure am glad I had that hour to waste.

The catalog may become reality but I don't think instant delivery will.

Well, I gotta echo all the comments that have been said earlier - what also worries me is how the heck they're going to organize these things.

How do you judge quality of a rifle when there are 1000 rifles on the market? Some crafters graft their name into the weapon name, so if you know say Dy-Nod (on Naritus) is good then you'll gravitate towards those names. However it's not a trade mark so copy cats can start using his name as well. Some crafters put the Speed,Min/Max Dmg Numbers in the title which will help - but the thought of having to go through list after list of checking rifle stats. I don't know - I think it might just be as easy running out to the vendor.

So that's my concern (and why I never currently buy any item from the bazaar that relies on quality).

Cheers

The answer to this is multi-fold i think:

Create a skill at advertising 4 or master merchant that allows for global bazaar placement

Charge a fee for said placement

Create a skill at hiring 4 or master that allow for "shipping"

Charge a fee for said "delivery"

Expect prices on these conveniences to be high

Disallow slice or spice from being on bazaar or make a 50% chance that said item aggros you to police on the planet in question(maybe even a stiff factional penalty say to the corsec, rsf, etc.)

Create a vendor(s) in Underworld 4 or Master Smuggler that is called Black Market Traders.

Do not give black market traders planetary map registration.

Allow smugglers to use connections skill to register with crime organizations and or shady dealers via missions or payment. Nym, Jabba, Borvo, Valerian, Jawas, Junk Dealers, etc. this would allow players to get a list of planetary black market vendors in their datapad that were temporary(maybe added tot the poi tab or a new tab as to not clutter the wp tab)

This is what I am talkin' about.

I'm sure the majority of players are in this type of situation.

My toon is standing in a field of vendors right now looking for a chest plate and can't find one.

Now, I hear what your saying about being worried about it wrecking prices 'cause people will undercut you- but I disagree.

Yes! there will be some undercutting but there are other factors that come with this system.

I would spend more money for an item if I don't have to travel as far.

I would spend more money for an item that is of better quality (I assume the galaxy vendors will allow you to call up the stats of said items)

Also, this might help those who seriously overcharge/undercharge their wares to price correctly.

People will pay what they want to pay in the end. No matter what kind of system you use. My point is the most valuable thing we have in this game is TIME and spending a buff session's amount of time shopping might be fun in the SIMS but not SWG.

...at least not for me.
