New to "smuggling," I started purchasing some armor and weapon upgrade kits. None of the kits I use have a rating. Does kit quality effect the underlying slice?Should I laugh at the weaponsmith selling his upgrade kits at 10 times the priceof the vendor next to him because they are advertised as 98% effective?

Quality has no effect on the outcome on the slice. It's all random/

NOTHING affects slicing! Maybe after the smuggler revamp yes, until then don't beleive anyone who says otherwise.

Yes, PLEASE laugh at him. If the WS doesn't know that quality is irrelevant, he's either a new player or a fool. If he does know, then he's trying to rip people off.

Just so you are aware, this applies to FANs, molecular clamps and laser knives too. Not that you'd ever use a FAN.

Lol, if you failed a slice while working with a customer you'd get chewed out soooo bad.
