I did two slices tonight that seemed to be very screwy. In fact, I'm certain that they're screwy.
On the first one, I applied the clamp. It said to slice blue. So, I hit the Enter Button on my computer, as the default action on the window is 'cut blue.' The window disappeared. When I'd click on the slice option on the weapon, it said that I was already slicing. I logged out and logged back in after trying all sorts of ways to ge the window back. When I logged in, the slice option was back. I cut blue, then red and it was a successful slice.
The second time, I applied the clamp. It said to slice red. I sliced red. Then hit enter for the blue slice. The window disappeared again. When I logged back in it gave me the standard slicing menu. I told it to cut red (thinking that the slice was reset) and the weapon broke.
Needless to say, I had an angry customer on my hands.
Anyone else have this happen? I submitted a bug report, but Ithink the dude's weapon is perminantly screwed.

Often when windows disappear or malfunction such that you can't click on a button you can regain control by hitting ALT twice.
It's an old trick from way back in beta and still works when windows get buggy.

This also helps if you can't hit accept in trading.

when all else fails have the customer kill you
no seriously
the "you are already slicing" bug can happen under several circumstances some of which can be fixed by logging but all can be fixed by cloning ...logging tends to make the customer a bit nervous too.
I've never ever had a weapon break on me though. /shrug

Plus the customer should be happy to kill you by this point

heh yeah I've had to do it a couple of times cuz of the inability to trade thing hehe. I made sure their stuff was insured and told them they now had to take it from me hehe
sorta puts a funny twist on a potentially angry situation.

I had the first one happen to me before. I sliced something, got to the second screen and then it disappeared. I hit ALT, but that didn't help; I closed all my windows to see if I just lost it, but it wasn't there.I tried logging out and back in and it just said I was already slicing something.
Oddly enough when the customer tried getting it sliced by another Smuggler, it said that the item was already sliced. But it didn't say that in the /examine screen. He brought it back to me to try again, and it happend again.

Two things I seem to notice, though... I can't slice if I'm aboard an MP ship. If I try to, what happend above will happen to me.
And I can't slice if I'm aboard an MP ship then land on the group. For a little while, slicing will bug out on me like it did above.
So, whenever I land from space now (if I was traveling in space on an MP ship), I'll usually pick up a piece of cheap bone armor on the bazaar and slice it to see if I can get it sliced.

an old bug with the "you are already slicing" used to happen when traveling past a server boundry. Since then as a general rule I do not slice anything where I am moving or may have to move. Do not slice on a ship, mount or vehicle and do not slice where you may get caught in combat for any reason.
this will avoid 90% of the "you are already slicing" crap.
The only thing that I have ever found that fixes it 100% of the time is getting killed and cloning ...not getting rezzed.

I just want to be sure that when you say break... you really mean the slice failed and they didn't get a bonus. I hope. Though it would be kinda fun to break items.
Yeah, the first time it was due to an armor slicing bug that I saw happen to other folks. You do what the clamp tells you, but it fails anyway. The second time was what I mentioned in the opening post.

I've had that problem only once....and I related to the experience of using the keyboard....so I use the mouse for everything related to slicing, might be a bit slower, but its the safest, in my opinion.

True, that! I felt so bad! I've only broken a customer's gear twice and both were due to bugs. The first time it was a guildie, so I didn't feel so bad, though.
