Thread: Question from a somewhat worried young Smuggler-to-be...
Can I be a Jedi and still expect to be a part of Smuggler community, or should I just abandon Smuggler right now and save myself the seemingly inevitible conflict that being a Smuggler and a Jedi would seemingly cause?
This isn't a Smuggler vs Jedi battle. This is a battle between players and elitists. There are MANY smuggler/jedi involved in this on both sides, and no smuggler is being ostracized for his/her beliefs. The harsh words and strong emotions are simply because many of us who have been here a long time and been through this before are getting sick of it, and finally whipping out the big guns on those who would attempt to destroy our brethren.
If you wish to be a Jedi one day, more power to you. If you take smuggler and decide to stick with it and never go jedi (as some of us have, myself included), good for you. Everyone has the right to make a choice...what you are seeing now is the crux of 2 groups with strong convictions drawing a line in the sand.
To be honest, however, and don't take this as a slam but as constructive criticism....I would not trust any smuggler who did not have unbreakable convictions and did not follow the Smuggler's Code....such a smuggler cannot be trusted. If you do not feel that you can support your comrades in arms 100%, you will find little love in the Smuggler OR Jedi community.
I guess the main problem here is that I fully support BOTH sides, I feel strongly for the Jedi (Well not the people who whine about everything and anything and can't stand not being the strongest, but the one's who wind up getting cought up in the mess or the ones who actually have legitimate issues.) and for the Smugglers... so what happens when two groups you love and support completely go head to head? Honestly it's a conflict I'd rather stay out of, but it seems more and more lately that I won't really have a choice but to get involved if I take up either profession. Kinda like the old debates about BH's who also had Jedi or vice versa I guess. Gah I don't wanna have to take a side in this paticular "battle" though... x_x
Of course you're welcome here!
In fact I think the more smugglers with Jedi characters the better! That's less Jedi likely to want to nerf Smugglers' abillities. But don't worry about this little tiff. The Jedi get into one of these once a month with EVERYONE. Every so often they realize there is a profession out there with an abillity that constitutes an actual PvP threat to them and their first reaction often is, "Me get beat? That's unpossible! NERF IT!" but this usually blows over with little consequence.
Welcome to the familia!
Digito,
The beauty of the game is you don't HAVE to get involved...those that do are those that really focus on the long-run...either for good or for bad. You can play, have fun with both professions, and never get involved in the politics. Gotta love that.
Just remember, after you earn your glowbat, that you were a smuggler FIRST. Tip your hat to the novice smuggler who you see slicing containers in C-Net when you're standing around waiting for the BHs to come try and cash in on your butt.

I'll definately be keeping that in mind. XD Hell, I'll prolly be like that towards all newbies, who knows... maybe once my home server picks up a bit population wise, I'll spend some time assisting some newbies, undercover of course... *Coughs* Vis is a pain and all. But yeah, if it were possible to do so I'd prolly use my Jedi abilitys to assist newbies when/if I hit Jedi. (I might even try it anyways as most BH on my server utterly ignore high end Jedi. XD)

Is this new? I've always loathed the _idea_ of Jedi in this game. I've met a couple that I just try to squint and pretend that I don't see that "Jedi Padawan" title floating over their head - But I think there needs to be _some_ mechanic in place that actually _forces_ them into hiding.
Unfortunately, the intended "force Jedi into hiding" mechanic is already in game. It's called visibility. Once a Jedi completes their template, it's utterly useless.
I know I'm earning myself an ass-kicking here, and I'm first in line to commence my own beating, but.. I think Jedi need another serious revamp. ;_;

Honestly, I would just make them a regular profession at this point. Take away the 1.5 power level and make Jedi Master comperable to a Master Rifleman, Smuggler, TKA, Commando and all the other combat professions. Balance their abilities with the other professions as well. Then to compensate the Jedi, remove the long grind and exp loss. Bounty Hunters could still hunt them for fun, though the BH would get less credits and would be on a timer before they could take the bounty on the same Jedi again. Say one week, but no exp loss. That way it wouldn't matter who won or lost really.
Those that really wanted to play as Jedi could be Jedi. The L337 powergamers who sought nothing but power would find they die just as easily as anyone else, do as much damage as anyone else and generally are not different than anyone else. Therefore, they might just drop Jedi and do another profession.

Mm. And then the RPers that we all want to have as Jedi move in, strike a deal with the BHs to have regular little event things and otherwise be left alone. Because, you know.. that's how RPers think.
From a Star Wars geek's perspective (I'm an aspiring loser, meself
But sometimes, game mechanics and fair play have to win out over faithfulness to canon. I agree that making Jedi a normal profession, albeit one with visibility and bounties and such, would not be a bad idea. A hard idea, and no doubt a very unpopular idea, but so was the Combat Upgrade. It is possible, and hypothetically speaking, it could be done.
I wonder what would happen if the other twenty-someodd professions in the game banded together to write a proposal for the devs and Jedi on this topic.
